  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

If the Scarlet were released tomorrow...?

Hey Tom,

Is my memory failing me, or are those new specs? Pity. I wouldn't really have a problem renting an Epic brain on the occasions that I require slo-mo, but it certainly would be nicer if I didn't have to.

Priorities

Priorities

For the 2nd year in a row, I did NOT buy a Lexus (just saw an add). The money sits the bank waiting for a Scarlet S35 camera. Everyone has different priorities.

I would go for the S35. It does have overcrank- 60fps, I believe. That's more than enough for me. But having the 120fps burst of the 2/3rds would be the icing on the cake- and I'm sure we'll still get some good surprises on the camera's specs prior release.

60fps was removed from the specs of Scarlet FF35 and S35 last I heard. Hopefully overcranking will come back as we get closer to release. The faster the fps the better, IMHO.

It's such a huge leap from 2/3 Scarlet to Epic... It just doesn't make sense to me.

Everything I have read says that the S35 and FF35 scarlets will be able to shoot 72fps in 2k and have a 72fps burst rate at their full resolutions. I think this is going to change mostly because there are no mention of higher speeds for any other resolution besides 2k.

All that has been said since by Jim is that specs won't be any worse. Who knows what they will actually release at this point. Until they have the new designs fully tested, they may not know themselves:001_smile:

My two cents?

EPIC X makes the MOST sense to release first because:
1. The logistics of all those trade-ins equal A TON of work.. and its a built in user group
who understands how RED works.
2. Buys more time to ramp up production of Scarlet's which could be as many as 3 to 5 times as many cameras as RED ONE sales, conservatively.
3. MONSTRO is what most the pros are waiting for... for the increased dynamic range.

Then for Epic owners, its just about adding brains. FF35, 645, 617

But what do I know? nothing.

I wonder if they are having heat problems RE the over-crank.

Has anyone seen any hints about
the cost of the scarlet assessories...
mainly the
- multiple Battery options
- PRO cinema i\o module
- red handle
- redMote

I've been searching the forums
but it seems like Red will have
us guessing their prices to until
the scarlets release.
