  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

If only this worked on the RED...

Ultra thin Trojan condoms?
cool.

The CF card thing
i wish.

We ordered the CF thing to test but got these condoms instead...

The CF thing is not available yet but we have one coming to test.

raided cf is the way to go no redcode limitations .i wonder if it would be possible to RAID a RAID CONFIG ?

yes. This is called raid 0+1 or 5+0 (or whatever other combination) - if the lowest level RAID is transparent, i.e. looks like a normal drive, you can just plug em all together in theory...

generally this is not required though ;)

Nice find, Mitch.

This would be phantastic if it turned out to work.

Also, looks like they have some sort of 2.5" harddisk enclosure in the works that takes two of those babies:

FLASH SSD vs. DDR2-800 SSD

FLASH SSD vs. DDR2-800 SSD

Has anyone used the DDR2-800 type SSD units, they seem to claim that it is faster than FLASH type SSD HD replacement?

I'm interested in these for both recording Digital Cinema on and for playback frames in my Edit system, since HD glitch too much.

I have a HD/SSD frame rate test program for testing in this post, if you have any of these type of drives and can do the 2592x1102x1.5 resolution at 1440 frames test please post how fast a frame rate you can get on your drives or RAID array, I get 1.5fps on my PC and 4fps on my Brothers, but need to find out what gets above 32fps, so any more test info will be a help,

That post tells you how to rename the BIN file EXE so it will run, its a simple program but gives you a "real" world MB/s and fps readout for various shot lengths, 1440 frames is one minute, 14400 is 10 minutes and so on.

CF's look like they are falling by the wayside, having made insignificant speed improvements in the last 20 months - or as we know it: Red Year Zero.

What happened to the plan to use pop out 1.8" Sata SSD drives ?

Isn't the raided SD card the basic principle behind Panasonic's P2 media? They seem to work really well.

The CF form factor is falling by the wayside. Mainstream gadget makers are all going for SDHC and SDXC cards. CF has a SATA-based version due out soon called C.FAST, but I'm starting to wonder if it will even take off.

The FLASH memory chips that are used to make SD cards, CF cards, etc.. is all the same, it's just a matter of the packaging and interface used to make whatever type of card desired. Theoretically, CF should still be the superior format vs. SDHC/SDXC simply because it's larger size should allow for more memory to be crammed inside and more elaborate and powerful memory controllers to be used as well. In a way, that's what's happening with this 4xSD RAID CF thingy. Hopefully they put a good memory controller inside that can deliver some serious performance.

Looks like it was scrapped a long time ago. Along with the ExpressCard media option. I think the big problem with both of these is that they haven't caught on anywhere else. The 1.8" SATA doesn't make sense in the same way that CF or SD cards do anyway as the drives would need some kind of caddy system or means to protect their onboard connectors. They're not designed to be plugged and unplugged hundreds or thousands of times like a CF, SD and ExpressCards are.

Yea, keep us posted team RED...this is a SICK option if it works at all...
