Could you tell me please
If I have only 20 000 USD and if I'll buy Scarlet 2/3 body (2500) plus accessories (about 10 000) so I'll will have only about 7500 for lenses. I can't buy Red Pro Prime for 19 000 so is there any other way to get acceptable lenses for shooting independent cinema? Maybe I need to buy only one lens RED Pro 18-85mm for 9975 USD?
How do you think?
Thanks

If you're limited in budget and thinking about only one lens 18-85mm why not stick with the 8x fixed lens scarlet, make money with and then add another body and other lenses and use the fixed as B-cam?

Red Primes and Zooms are S35 mm lenses, not really practical or suitable for a 2/3" camera. You may look into C-mount lenses or, when available, 2/3 Red mini primes specifically designed for 2/3" sensor.

Alternatively, you can get a 2/3" fixed lens Scarlet, which should solve most of your lens and camera problems without blowing your budget. From memory it is rumoured to be under $4k.

Seriously though - Canon stills lenses - t1.2 look nice - whole set at BH approx six grand . Plus will shoot full frame.

As I understand we need to wait release of miniRED PRIMES (2/3 Format) and may be the price will be about 10 000 and the problem of expensive lenses for 2/3 Scarlet will be resolved by this way?

That's a very reasonable expectation because 2/3" lenses are MUCH cheaper to make.

So may be I am nervous prematurely:001_cool:
And everything that I need is to wait release of miniRED Primes which of course will be released up to release of 2/3 Scarlet for example up to the end of this year?

As all of the crisis around and the tricky electronics for these cams ..... :gun: I personally don't believe, we will see delivery this year ..... very sad .... :badputer:

But..from the other hand we get another problem because if I will buy 2/3 Scarlet with miniRED PRIME lenses and then I will buy S35 I'll have to throw out not only my 2/3 brain but and miniRED PRIME too...It is not good...
In this sence I mean If a really nee S35 but I can't wait for release of S35 and of course I wiil buy 2/3 so in this case I think it would be better buy Scarlet fixed lense untill S35 will be released

I am hoping at release of 2/3 Scarlet on NAB 2010 in April indeed and at release of S35 on IBC in September 2010

Maybe it's just me, but unless the mini primes are an amazing deal, I don't really see them as a good long term investment. I would personally rather invest in Nikon lenses. They are probably cheaper, and they can be used on larger sensors if you ever choose to upgrade. Not to mention the fact that if you're not satisfied with the stills you are getting out of your 5 megapixel Scarlet, you can always buy a nice Nikon and already have a lens set for it.

Nikon lenses on the 2/3" Scarlet will all look telephoto. If you want to use Nikon lenses, you pretty much have to go with the S35 Scarlet.

Of course the main aim - is S35 but..we know that first will be released Scarlet fixed Lens and Scaret with brain for 2500..so if this relese will be before summer 2010 it means that release of S35 will be at least by winter 2010 (I think not so fast after realese of 2/3 Scarlet) so if I don't want to wait another 1 year I will buy of course Scarlet when it will be released and then I will buy S35 when it will be released.

Actually the S35 Scarlet is supposed to be first, 2/3" Scarlet later. All things subject to change...

I hope you are right!:wink5:
Because I don't know where can I get patience for the one more year:wink5:

this couldn't be further from the truth. your mini primes are still perfectly usable on the S35. I believe the S35 is to have something set on the sensor to allow for a 16mm format if you wanted a deeper depth of field for whatever reason the mini primes would still be fully usable on a s35. and i wouldn't get rid of the brain either because it has the ability to shoot much slower frame rates which you will not be able to do with the s35

So perhaps buy 8mm and 16mm mini primes, and 28 and 50mm Nikons. (But that means a couple of minutes for a mount change.)

Thank you! It means that I need only buy S35 brain and just change my 2/3 brain.

35mm still lenses are not typically sharp enough for 2/3" sensor. A premium quality still lens that will resolve 2000 lines vertical over 24mm FF35 sensor will only resolve about 450 lines on a 2/3" sensor, about half what you need.
Best bang for the buck would be a used 16mm zoom or 16mm primes for interchangeable model.
I think the fixed lens version is truly the bargain though.

If you are going to use 16mm lenses on an S35, then there is no point in buying the S35. The resolution would be less than 3k, and of course 16mm depth of field.
