Hi Folks,

I've been searching around for this, but have been unable to find a definitive answer: Can I use IDX Endura 10 DC14.8V/6.6AH V mount 98Wh batteries with the RED without damaging the camera. I know it probably won't last as long as the RED batteries, but I have four of these and I'd like to use them for a start.

Thanks very much - my apologies if this was stated elsewhere.

Yes, works fine.

You will not be able to see the available charge on the RED camera, though.
You have to refer to the on battery gauge...

You can, but take a look at IDX's tech specs for the max draw on them. I think they may have to be in powerlink. They'll work out of powerlink but its not good on the cells. The red draws about 4 amps without other non red accessories you might be using like cine tape, preston, etc...

I may well be wrong but I seem to remember having a set of these as emergency back-up batteries at an early stage in our Red "journey". As Anders says you will not get a read out on the Red regarding battery voltage so unless you're happy with the camera just crapping out in the middle of a shot (particularly bad with a Red Drive) you'll have to permanently monitor the voltage on the batteries themselves which is easier said than done (if memory serves me I think it might even burn through one battery first, so the charge on the other battery might look good even though the other battery's about to die and shut down your camera). It's a major hassle and ordering more Red batteries and an extra charger really was worth every dollar - so much less stress, if you're not able to continually monitor battery power levels it safely powers the camera down which, with all the gremlins going on power-wise, is priceless.
