Hi Guys...
Shot a piece today on my 64GB SSD.Clip was about 11 minutes long-size 4.26gb.When i went to copy the file to an external drive via the RED STATION the folder contained 7 identical clips with a size of 25.96gb on the mounted drive. All of them the exact same size too except clip 7 which was only 119.16mb.Are these reference files of some sort and do all of them need to be copied when data wrangling?
Clip settings were 4K@25fps with 8:1 RC.
I'm sure the 25gb size is more likely than 4gb @4K but just wanted to know what the other files were....

Also i posted a while ago about an eSata card i bought(Sonnet Tempo SATA Edge 6GB/s 1 Port SATA ExpressCard/34 Card Network Adapter) for my MBP which i didnt think was compatible coz it didn't mount my RED STATION when i plugged in.I read somewhere else on reduser that somebody else had success with a different eSata card when he powered down laptop, attatched RED STATION and booted up.I can verify this too as i tried the same and it worked.....4.85gb copied under 1 minute!

Thanks in advance guys and yes...the camera does indeed rock!!

File size is limited to 2GB with the FAT32 file structure. Red breaks the files apart to overcome this restriction, files will play uninterrupted if they are intact in the RDC folder.

Thanks Scott got it....i take it each file in the folder would then have to be imported into the NLE for edit?

To add on that, there should be some delineation in the file names of the individual R3D files within the folder. I forget exactly how it looks, but there will be some sort of '.1' or '_01' or even '_0001' appended to the first R3D, followed by a '_0002', etc.

Your file sizes only make sense if your volume is some sort of RAID or NAS that is counting file parity in total file size (and thus giving a count of nearly 5GB when each R3D should be no larger than 2GB).

Of course, all that being said, 4K for 11 minutes, to me, sounds like more of a ~5GB size than a ~25GB size. Did you somehow transfer the data 7 times, and cancel (or unplug) partway through the 7th?

Most (all?) programs don't really get fed the individual .R3D file. Rather, feed it the entire encompassing folder. The magic of playing those partial spans as one clip will happen automatically and invisibly.

Hey Nick,

No delineation in the individual R3D's-they are all identical in size and file name, except the 7th one.But now that you say it 4.16gb does sound more right for 11 minutes of footage @4K.
Just wondered why they were listed 7 times when i mounted the RED STATION.....I literally ejected the SSD,plugged in the RED STATION and when it mounted there they were...

Can you be more specific about folder structure or file names? Do they have some sort of '_00001', '_00002', '_00003', etc. appended to the end of each? Like I said, it sounds like the file was somehow copied 7 times, with the 7th failing (hence the much smaller file size). But files and folders CANNOT have the exact same name within the exact same directory. So if you have .R3D files all within the same folder, there has to be something delineating them from each other. Similarly, if you have a set of FOLDERS (that each contain identical [as in, no number appended to the .R3D itself]) that are clones of each other, and all of THOSE FOLDERS are contained within the same parent folder, they would have to be delineated in some way.

And you're seeing this on the master SSD, not the copy? If you direct RedCine-X to the SSD (or the Copy) do you see the same clip 6 or 7 times?

Yes i think it copied the file 7 times for some reason because when i navigate to the folder in RedCineX only one file shows up.
Here's a snapshot of the folder anyhows....

I'm doing a bit of data wrangling tomorrow so just wanted a heads up in case i transferred a clip over 10 minutes at 4K and several of the same R3D shows up in the parent folder....

Picture isn't working for me.

So, again, is this on the SSD? or the copy to another harddrive? And if it's a copy, what process did you use to copy the data over?
