I'm making some films for a company which needs to invest in a fast computer for some of their audio needs, and they'd like to know what I recommend considering that the computer could be used in the next several months for Editing R3Ds in CS6. Given capabilities of CS6, I know that I can basically do this even on my i7MBP. They were assuming they would need the latest Mac Pro, but as I'm researching, I'm finding that its not a good investment given that MP's are now behind the imac 27" systems and will likely be overhauled for 2013 or discontinued. I'm sure someone has posted this, but I'd love to know the current best system for editing. I'm curious about this setup:
iMac 27
3.2 Ghz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5
1TB fusion drive
16BG RAM
This looks like a good setup. But I have yet to read first hand accounts of adding on PCI Thunderbolt Expansion chasis.
NVIDIA GQuadro 400
Magma Express Box (or the sonnet version)
Would those make a difference in editing say a feature documentary? The ability to watch footage in real time and add limited basic effects is the goal here. Or are they not needed? Jeff Kilgore, if you are out there I'd love your input or a link to a good thread on exactly this topic!
Thanks!
