  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Idea: use a 3D rid to simulate HDRx

thanks petros for your reply , i know that weight and mobility is a concern , but in my case will be a tripod style of shooting and just few setups ...and i need the sharpest higher DR as possible ...
May i ask what splitter did you use or if there are any particular things to know trying to achieve HDR with 2 Red ? I am totally new to this and i don't know even which 3d rig use ,and if i need a particular ones or not ...

Like : how would you expose ? One camera a bit over for the mids and one camera for the highlight ? or camera exposed for the shadows and the other for the highlight ?

Also : did you test the same scene in HDR (2MX) VS 1 Camera + low con filter

Thanks

I used a rig I built sometime ago. If it was worth it, I would built an hdr-specific rig removing the additional weight added by the s3d related features like I/O, convergence, bigger mirror box etc, but I dont think I would use it that often to justify the cost.
I exposed the highlights camera so I didnt get any clipping and the second one 2 and 3 stops over. IMHO the 3 stops difference produced the best results, but it was a greek sunny day, and you cant get more contrast than that!
One thing you need to remember is that its almost like an s3d shoot, you will need to perfectly align the cameras which-depending the rig-can take some time, have controls for both lenses, genlock and in general be ready for longer than usual setups.
I didnt test the low con the same day, it was a decision I made after I saw the results of the single, non filtered camera and decided it was worth going with this setup.
