Had a random idea that came to my head while planning for Red 4K Portrait contest on how to get 24fps using 2 Red Scarlet-X's.
- Use a 3D mirror box rig, and align the mirror so both cameras see the exact same image.
- Off-sync the cameras so one camera starts at exactly 1 frame after the other.
- Record at 5K 12fps.
- Bring both camera clips in post, edit, grade, then match the edits to the 2nd cam's footage
- Now export DPX frames off-setting the numbers. First camera is all even, second camera all odd.
- Recombine DPX frames from both cameras in sequence and now you have 24fps.
Obviously this is overkill and would be cheaper to just get an Epic. But, this idea could have other implications for those who already have easy access to 3D rigs. Say shooting 600fps on Epic. Anyone with 3D experience have comment on whether this method would work or not?
