  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IBE Optics?

Mitch..price is right on these..but why aren't these lenses FF35..or would that have entailed higher design or
production cost ?

Did anyone have a chance to take a look at Schneider glass at NAB?
Is the Canon EF mount interchangeable with PL(similar to Zeiss CP2) or it's a permanent option?

Thanks

The Canon EF Mounts are interchangeable but a proper back focus adjustment must be made which should be done by a lens tech or someone familiar with this process.

The image circle does not cover the Canon 5D MKII completely. The lenses do cover the 5D MKII at T2.0 to T4 but vignette beyond that. They cover the Canon 7D and 1D MKIV at all aperture ranges tested.

are there links to real world pictures with the new housings, i liked the optical perfomance of the very early prototypes.
are these getting still longer when focusing, if so are there problems with matteboxes?
another q: is it easy to put a clamp on?
is servicing done by schneider or ibe?

All answers and photos coming soon.

These look like the most promising lenses of all the recent offerings to me. From the video shot with the lenses on the Schneider site the lenses do appear to have specific look which is very appealing. The fast wide end and the commitment to a full range of lenses in the future are also good points in favour of the lenses for me.

A few quick answers:

- For a look at what the new housings look like, check out the NAB pt 1 video at Finner Knows Best. I show them off right at the beginning. Proper photos coming soon.

- The lenses do expand axially when focusing. For the range commonly used (5' to infinity) the lenses expand less than a centimeter, certainly well within the range of most follow focuses and matteboxes. Most of the lenses allow extreme close focus, which will make them expand more. Many matteboxes will still allow this range without resetting their position, and the gearings on the lenses are quite wide in order to allow follow focuses to remain on track through the range.

- Clamp-on matteboxes are not a problem. All of the Schneider Cine Xenars have 104mm outer diameters and they do not rotate.

- Schneider is fully equipped to provide full service support for these lenses. The Cine Xenars were designed in partnership with IB/E Optics, but these lenses are a product of Schneider. Abel also supports any product that we sell.

Mitch, I haven't seen any info released about the IB/E Supreme lenses other than what is on the page showing the 14mm. Am I not looking in the right places, or are we still waiting?

Still waiting. Many other projects have taken precedence, including a lot of work that has absolutely nothing to do with our industry. Cool stuff like things for Lasik eye surgery and military applications.

Ah...sounds like they need to get their priorities straight. j/k

Guess we will wait a little longer. I like the looks of that 14mm. I am wanting my Epic package to be as small and lightweight as possible. The Supremes look like they will fit the bill nicely.

Thanks for the link Peter.
Anxiously awaiting more news on these...

Mitch,
Any word on when Able will have these available for sale or rental? I can't find them on your site.
I talked with you about these out at NAB and after playing with them a bit at the Schneider booth, I'm about convinced this is the way I want to go.

Mike

I ask this same question to Schneider on a near-daily basis. I have a testing set in hand for a few days right now, but then they go back for some tweaks. We will show them at Cine Gear as well.

Soon, soon ...

any further news? seems like a phenomenal set of glass, I'm itching to see lens tests, and HQ footage out of it. The stuff I've been finding online is near impossible to tell the level of quality of the optics...

Abel can make a set available for testing to interested parties. Feel free to contact me directly.
