Jim and Jarred at the ASSIMILATE booth this AM...

Jim looking through the Bomb EVF. I got to take a look - it is *incredible*.

Wow that thing looks sweet...
even more...is that the Epic X ?! O.o

Everything they're holding look amazing! It's great to finally see the EPIC prototype in the flesh! Is there gaffer tape on the side there?

Jim is holding the Epic Brain, with the Bomb EVF attached.

Jarred is holding the Epic Brain with PL Mount, Expansion Plate, CF Module, Side Handle, Battery Module, and REDmote attached.

Looks like that body has an OLPF in it - so is there a sensor in there as well? The whole system is looking pretty far along - I hope the ASICs come soon!

Oh, and by the way, any chance of some close-ups?

What's the story here, Lucas? What did you see in a disconnected electronic viewfinder for god's sake? Now I'm curious

wow

I believe that what you are seeing isn't gaffers tape, but rather the exposed sides of the batteries seated in the module. The "EPIC close up" thread shows that the batteries have a smoother/shiner surface than the exterior module finish.

I want to know what she's holding too.

Nice work. Very exciting!!! Don't need these kinds of distractions when I'm meant to shooting.

Yes, I realised that once I found the close up thread.
I'm going to guess that she (Jarred's wife, I'm pretty sure, see landmine.tv) is holding an I/O Module and another handle.

Howzabout a shot of how them puppies fasten together?

If you look at the old pics of the silver prototypes that were under glass from a few months back, and then compare the shot of the I/O module in the Epic Closeup thread, it looks as if the system has changed a bit.

On the previous proto's, the top lip and the triangular seating area in the center look the same as the current setup, but the fastening system at the bottom looked different.

Now there are couplers protruding at the bottom. They appear to be the fastening point, and not just registration pins. The other module must have a "grab and seat" socket in it.

Previously there appeared to be a rotating latch mechanism that grabbed a hold of a matching anchor point in a slot machined in to the mating module.

That is the real working sensor, and all the other real little bits .. all we are waiting for now is the ASIC.

nope that's not my wife in Lucas's photo, that is Ginger, the newest addition to the RED Team. that is my wife ( Debranne ) on landmine.tv though.

Anyways.. Ginger is holding the PRO I/O and the Bottom Handle.

Looks like a better design, you just hook the module in at the top and then the pins seat at the bottom. Likely a spring loaded slider or button releases the pins to disconnect. Mechanically simpler than the other one, bravo.

It looks very small in Jarred's arm there.
