I would buy a Fixed Scarlet even with a flaw on the lens...I cant afford Scarlet X, I wish I could, but I cant..not all have wages like in US..in my country we earn 250 euro (everage wage)

I Love Red though...

p.s. I can only hope something will change

What makes you think a camera with a fixed lens would be less costy than a camera with a canon mount... the mount is no money to make... a lens is more costly so if you add it up the scarlet fixed lens would cost more than the scarlet X to make.

Sure.....there's a heap of folks saying this, but imagine when they get their cameras and theirs a scratch across the lens or an overheating issue....RED takes another beating and you cannot do ANYTHING with your images except put them in the family album. Have you REALLY thought about what you are saying? ....no firmware upgrades, no support, NOTHING? Even if you were to say yes, RED would ultimately have to deal with more criticism and complaints about a product not complete or finished or with no support.....Just put a bit more thought into what you guys are saying....i doubt you really would drop $6k for a flawed product.

After spending so much cash on the 2/3 escapade, I doubt they would let the units roam free, off into the wild (even without a no user support agreement). It would become inevitable that peeps and competitors could dissect and possibly study/copy the tech. I agree it's not worth the hassle. Although the 2/3 Scarlet was a failed concept for RED, I would think that the only thing that could happen to the units is to either A) Be scrapped and destroyed or B) Boxed and put into storage. The technology, although unsuccessful in actually making it to market, will remain with RED.

It's not the mount thats the problem.. Its the lens.. There are no quality 8x wide to mid canon lenses around. Not for a price you can pay anyways.
And you do not want to record at 4k at all times to stay wide on the lens, if you are shooting for TV or youtube.

Besides all the EF lenses are non parfocal so that is another nail in the coffin.
I understand that the main reason for abandoning the fixed scarlet, was parfocal issues. So that would make it a no go in any case.
All I can be sad about is that they gave up on fixing that issue.
