I wish this website would give reward points to people who answer questions. I notice very few to no filmmaking forums do that. There are some people who go far out of their way to help someone, answering their technical question. And there is no way to thank them but to say thanks. They should get points or something for being so helpful and taking the time out. There needs to be some sort of reward system for those who help others on here. Lots of very helpful people on this forum, it's amazing. Just a random thought/suggestion to consider.

That is an interesting concept. I think that with the power of the internet and search engines, most answers can so easily be found. Let alone the amount of people who ask the same questions over and over again, questions that are answered in stickies, write ups, reviews, and previously in the forums; all they need to do is click the search box.

I also think that there are probably 100 people with questions for every 1 person who has answers, so that alone makes it difficult. I try to help out people here and there when I can, but, of course, the people who have the answers usually have work to do, because they know the answers lol.

Very interesting socio-internet economics ya bring up =)

What is your question?

question. why do i want points?

Points mean prizes!!! Seriously though, i like this idea. I actually suggested that they implement a Facebook style 'Like' button, so you can like a post. It would cut down on tons of spam thank you posts or replies.

There are plugins for vBulletin which do that. You would just need to pester Jarred etc to add them. In my experience they don't actually add anything to the community.

David Mullen ASC, gets a million points!

Agreed... ;)

David sure does put in lot of time to give some very well informed answers and every one here should be tankful to him for it!!

Then there are few other users here that also put a good deal of time to answer new and long time user's questions, one I can think of is Jeff Kilgroe, Steve Gibby, but as I said there are several more.

Such system would become a cut on the democratization, to set apart new members in these communities rather than gathering, towards a more elitist inner circle and even stimulating competition inside the family in a counterproductive way; which will never end to help the business.

RED needs clients, not a fans club, already existent BTW : ) let it alone for a more strict one, go figure :P
Ranks work out but in the Army, not even for shooting at times ;)
No need for that, but quite the opposite IMHO.

I don't think this had been the model of Landmine Media. And where Jim got inspiration for a new market.
See dvxuser example. And take reduser as a sort of United Nations where all the members should count.

Vanity is efficient but in front of the mirror for a good shave... "Hope it helps" is still my fav piece of reading over here.

E. :-)

PS: David Mullen is surely an exception, someone I personally even owe something I'll never forget, but you can't expect the world is made in his likeness.
