  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I want to tell you...

Far out…

Where can you get one of those?

That’s a really good replica.., my late father designed the sets for 2001 including HAL.

Stanley had everything destroyed so that the only things that would exist from the production would only be on film.

BUT over the years a few bits pieces turn up. We have almost all of the original artwork (my father did) from the original production. We may put it up for auction one day… (you don’t happen to know any Billionaire’s by any chance that might be interested in such a collection?).

I did see I think It was for HAL’s birthday (over ten years ago I think) that an original face plate for HAL turned up.

Factoid: They picked the letters HAL (not necessarily because of Heuristic Algorithmic Logic) but because it was also one letter before IBM. (Speaking of which my stupid LENOVO workstation needs a really good kicking after watching that video...).

Just freaking weird how stuff randomly connects sometimes…

BTW I have a pair of S-3d LCD shutter glasses (that JIM is so fond of) from CrystalEyes that I can lend to you so that you don’t have to go to all that effort of blinking to see what JIM is really saying. The glasses flicker like a banshee you will never have to blink again…EVER!

Hmmm very interesting. Very interesting effect on the linked video.

Hmmm Wow…

Eric

Ohhh God that’s so funny…

Clearly it’s a maze of some sort that I must solve…I have to print it out and used my old creaky old Rotring Iso-Rapidograph 0.15 to draw between the lines so I can solve it.. Never going to sleep.

Oh Man…

A lot of the sets still stand up today, I have a lot of the alternate designs too that didn’t make it into final schemes and also a lot of development design work. The Iconic monolith wasn’t always rectangular in shape in some of the designs it was more of a squat crystalline more geologic form like obsidian.

I am definitely going to get one of those HAL looking interfaces for Christmas for my brother. Super awesome.

I was born 1970 so didn’t see the 2001 in the flesh but was on set for Start wars, Empire, and Jedi at EMI, and lots of other cool movies at EMI Sheperton and Pinewood too. As a Kid when he was working on Star Wars I really liked hanging out on the junk yards (I guess that’s why today I just love Stuck with Hacket). There was this one junk yard somewhere in East London I believe that was called Colie’s Junk Yard. It was one of the most sophisticated junk yards on the planet, you had defunct brain scanners, partially dismantled jet aircraft, forcibly defunct gyrostabalized inertial guidance systems BUT all mashed up together in most cases, unbelievable, and of course a lot 1970 electronics and early computers. In most cases you would just pay for things by weight, so I used to take all these parts and circuit boards home with me and build little sets and panels and flashing lights and the whole works. My room was VERY small so they (my parents) called it the space capsule. Not quite the pod bay…

It’s funny though because my Dad was a production designer or in some cases an Art director or on some productions set dresser/decorator his DIY skills were from the MOVIES, so everything he ever put up at home would usually fall down in about two weeks (we used to laugh about that a lot). It seemed like just about everything in the home was held together with industrial strength super glue and double sided tape and maybe the occasional panel pin. It was a pretty unusual childhood but a real privilege to look over his shoulder onto his drawing board for many years and I am very greatfull about how much he always shared. He really did have an incredible talent and still got the job done on time and within budget. He was very modest and you could know him for years in some cases and you would never know that he was in the “Film” Business at all.

This is why I think REDUSER is fantastic because everybody has a really good sense of humor, like a film production (in some cases) but everybody is really interested in getting things done and doing the best work they possibly can (and of course with the best tools).

SOOOO I am definitely, from extra hints going to have a good look at that invite again (time willing).

Cheers,

Eric

November 3rd won't be about what we are working on. It will be about what is done and what we are ready to take orders on. Finally.

Jim

I have the best accountant in the world.

I told her she needed to wire $12k to RED, for Scarlet plus bits.

She said 'Sure, when?'

That's why I married her :-)

BTW I've been up to my oxters in work these last three weeks or so, have hardly had time to glance here... can someone summarize quickly for me:

1. Orders being taken for Scarlet Nov. 3rd, yeah we all know. For (virtually) immediate fulfillment? Or sometime in the next couple of months? Or sometime next year?
2. Any word on Stage 3 deposits- when they will be taken? If Nov 3rd, need to get a different accountant to arrange another wire on another account...!

Thanks

Mike

Evan Starkey still

Trooper 1 - what is that .... is it dead ?

Trooper 2 - Not sure human i think ..... i told you not to show it the Scarlet

Good busy I hope!

That’s awesome,

(“Fireman”/MIKE) I and others have been posting the same questions....(no direct answer to those right now perhaps).

The impression I get is that the first few or several thousand will ship pretty quickly. Then after that I imagine that they are geared up for production so it’s possible that the Scarlety things are released in waves or batches. I imagine waits of weeks but not lots of months on back order, but I may be totally wrong, have no idea really. Now that the impact of the disasters in Japan have settled a bit I imagine JIM has managed to get things very much back on a real schedule. I think that was one of the things that initially he was really dissapointed about.

The other “crazy” impression I get is that there are other new things that one can pull the trigger on and are also ready to ship.

I know this get’s a little messianic, a mystical cult of “what did he say?”… “JIM said..

“Jim said..
......................................................................“Jim said…

............................. “Jim said…

..................“Jim said…

“But what does it really mean…?”

It makes me think of Life of Brian, “What did he say….?” …”Speak up we can’t hear you!”, “he said blessed are the cheese makers…” “Ohhhh”.

It’s an interesting chain of “faith”. I have a lot of faith in RED, and yet we don’t know what they are really going to pull the dust sheet off. BUT all of the folks that have faith in me and what we are doing are very happily making transfers for undetermined amounts to cover a set of eventualities that we are not really sure about. Normally you could never do this…save but for this rather unusual chain of faith that leads back to RED. It’s been fun actually trying to explain to development partners and so on, what is RED. The cool thing is that everybody is very excited.

The thing that really gives me “faith” is NOT the specs, it’s the people that work and comprise RED, for me that’s a massive button to push right there.

I think a “cooperative” network of small “giants’ can be more dynamic than giant corporate edifices doing battel ("clash of the titans" kind of thing). So 3rd party development of one sort or another will be huge, and is lot more effective at making a technology or set of systems or a brand virtually ubiquitous as the host company does not have to pay for all of that extended development, instead other companies stump up the funds to make it so. It can be good model I think. Things seem to be creeping in that direction anyway.

The thing that really blows my mind is that they categorically state that this will be

JIM “I'm expecting Nov. 3rd to be the biggest announcement in the history of RED.”

So we know Scarlet is on the table, D’oh… but for it to be the biggest “announcement” it has to be that they are announcing something NEW that we don’t know about (obviously) that is VERY BIG and very new…not just “guys…you can buy your Scarlet now…”.. something that is very big that "the people" the customers can really run with...SOONER rather than later.

Ta.

That’s funny actually the 11311 thing has been bugging me, especially as my “crazyness” tells me that the digits are not to be taken literally. (That dosen’t mean show up on the wrong day!!!)..

That’s funny my 13 year old son who is also dyslexic (who is home schooled, NOT for religious reasons, but for educational reasons…) is getting into computational linguistics, seems to be doing rather well at it. So maybe we do figure out the Mayan Calendar just for the hell of it!

The very first thing I noticed was that “they” used the Mayan calendar as the “back drop”. I started out as an archaeological conservator and materials scientist so for “educational” purposes I should really find out how those binary (esque) Mayan pips and lines actually work (he, he).

Nice one!

HAL Says,

“Dave…me is so stupid since you pulled me memory banks out, me can speak only now LOL CAT, me no know base 20 Vigesimal number system…remeber me really made of cardboard and gaffa’ tape…”

“processing…wait a moment…processing…”

NEW RED MEMBER IS $8K...msb

processing...

NEW RED MEMBER IS 8K

(non linear scaling thru range)

processing " me is so stupid..."

me have to come back later VET is here...

HAL SAYS...

NEW RED MEMBER ...b 3, k....!

(got it?)

HAL says, 11 converted as the (most significant bit, MSB) in base 20 (mayan) is B.

3 is 3.

11 is also K (11th letter in English alphabet).

NOV from latin route NOVA = NEW

Parse Novemebr = NEW MEMBER

3rd = RED (rearranged)

PUT IT ALL TOGETHER

NEW RED MEMBER B(e)..(the e left over from november) 3 K.

NEW RED MEMBER BE 3K

QED!

or not.

HAL SAYs “me think that be BIG COINKIDINK”

HAL (has second thoughts, and scratches his circuits about other combinations and the root NOV and number 185b)

HAL says “Me compute probabilities through laws of combinatorics…scratch... scratch”

HAL SAYS "Me wish me was WATSON instead...me need help...cannot disambiguate...need clarity".

.... porcessing ...processing...

NO RED MEMBER BE 3K

HAL SAYS “V” does not compute!

V = visual (not).

‘HAL is excited but not know why?”

HAL also worried that MAYAN 11311 converted to MAYAN letters may spell bollocks.

HAL wonders about memory transfer devices. especially as his are all pulled out right now?

DVR...

HAL says he is worried he will be unplugged (again). He is worried as his track record as a psychopathic computing device might count against him especially if he starts to see Scarlet. HAL thinks the storm troopers are going to kick his butt/access panel. HAL may get human agents to do his bidding. HAL and human attendants are busy rest of the day.

EBL,

EOL...
