Just like what Nick Mercer is saying, that maybe on your i-pad, you literally SAVE THE DATE AND COLOR IT SCARLET, the software picks this up and un-locks something… so you type in 11311 and literally color it red or scarlet…The idea is that somehow you already have it..here’s the key to unlock it.

I can’t take credit for that, that was the awesome Lliam Worthington gave me that excellent quip..…I even asked permission to use it!

The truth is still (out there) perhaps “buried” in plain sight.

The thing that’s kind of funny is that on the “other” thread there is this sort of “bitchy” tug of war going on of ever more strained and bitter tones. For the most part a lot of people really try to argue for what THEY want, not really thinking from the viewpoint of the “board room” of RED. I’m sure Jim and TEAM really wrestled for many many months to figure out how to do right by EVERYBODY (within reason that is still half sane after all of this). I sort of believe the sentiment that Jim said ..paraphrase, [“If you don’t like [what we have done] then you suck!”].

The reality IS after the announcement nobody is really going to give shit?

You know?… After the announcement you can’t go “SEE I told you so…!!!!” (I’m a freaking genius), because nobody is going to care!!??

Hopefully everybody got what they needed and are VERY busy and very happy using the awesome RED equipment/cameras of one flavor or another, doing what they have been absolutely Jonesing to do…

I think RED team figured out the solution to this Scarlet centered “tug of war” a long time ago or saw it waaaay ahead of anyone else.

So as a solution I do think there is going to be the lower RES run and gun shooter (maybe fixed lens/small primes) This will be a new camera to be announced I’ll call it “EMBER” as I am mad as a hatter. But I see it as a solution the “problem” that everybody seems to be fighting over.

Then you will have Scarlet which will be 3k (EPIC STYLE(ish) FORM FACTOR)

REDONE or New REDONE 4K, (but EPIC style form factor)

EPIC 5K, (EPIC Style form factor… D'oh)

The basic premise is that you can’t have Scarlet “interfering” with REDONE (even MX) and in terms of price structure and capability “new” REDONE can’t interfere with EPIC (and so on). BUT soooo much has been loaded onto Scarlet that it has to be split at least into two or three cameras. NOT ONE. How far “upgradability” and to what degree I don’t know?

The other thing is that there is no immutable law that says that you have to use near perfect and immutable boundaries of K either?

Maybe a little run and gun shooter (2/3”) could be 2.76K and the Scarlet 3.28K (larger sensor) and so on?

An EPIC_S idea may have morphed into something quite different and is a realy a ways away…? And so on..

As I say I think this basic “tug of war” has been resolved by good overall range of designs for a product line up that makes sense. I think RED are really good at that.

I do think that JIM does indeed feel for the die hard Scarleteers, and has really gone out of his way to do right as best as he possibly can, quite frankly (or least that’s the impression I get).

I only look at what people are saying just so I can get a couple of my ducks in a line in advance..i.e. purely for the purposes of preparation, but this attitude that “MY specs” are more correct than “your specs” kind of thing or people trying to push their own agenda to somehow “influence” how RED does stuff is frankly even madder than “Mad ERIC doing REDINCI CODE!” (he, he). They (RED) do listen but they know what is right and what make sense too. I think Jim made the comment quite some time ago, that he said again paraphrase “We know what you want…” or rather we know what you are going to want and need...

Buy or don’t buy that’s all that’s left…(I think).

I am trying really hard not to laugh (even though I can’t see you), but I guess that means I am just NOT sensitive enough… I guess that means I need to go to special Australian sensitivity classes. I hear they run such a course on a sheep farm outside Brisbane…(should look into that)?

Looking at the form factor and everything else (in the video) RED has to have made a smaller NEW run and gun shooter that is like 2.65K or something with much smaller glass? [it’s Jim and Jarred’s new baby…], When you see the Scarlet beasty in TED’s hands you think, that’s not what half the Scarlety folks were really hoping for (necessarily). And on the other hand you look at it and think well you might as well put the Scarlet guts into the EPIC body? Might increase reliability, but wonder if there will be an offset left handed and right handed versions (for s-3d)? That fixed 8X zoom looks pretty big to me even for fast glass. It’s still hard to imagine that you could get all of that for $6K? Nice looking piece of kit… (Actually exceeds (my) expectations?). Flump, I’d even buy a fractal up rezzing program to help shoot stills of live subjects for less commercial work. Scarlet dSmc approach..?

I have read a lot of the posts regarding Scarlet. There are so many unrealistic expectations that it takes the wind out of our sails.

Some people apparently have no idea what realistic is.

"Why not 28K at 1000fps RAW in a raisin box for $800?"

We are so happy to have a complete competitive advantage. We consider our customers as one of us. What we have always done is beat the competition in price/performance. But the misguided expectations for Scarlet are killing me.

You should expect a lot from us. But within reason. Really.

Measure us against our competitors... not your fantasies.

Nothing competes with EPIC. Nothing will compete with Scarlet... except your wildest dreams.

Get real. Get real before November 3rd. Or you will be unnecessarily disappointed. Which is totally unnecessary.

To be honest I have to say I have a very good BS detector, in spite of having a “wild” imagination.

So I basically focused on anything that was repeated many times in all caps by JIM (especially coupled with the words PAY ATTENTION!) that seemed out of context or inconsistent with his normal tone. So everything there you cite is completely consistent with Jim getting hacked off trying to explain things and people going looney tunes…(maybe including myself). I started out as a 4ker and now I am a happy (more settled) 3ker. ["chief's" daughter seems to be helping out in that reagrd, but I'm not sure about Tasmanian Polygamy laws...].

From a marketing genius (JIM) that loves to take things to the max 11311 would be the obvious visual mnemonic large as life for him to use. The fact that he says “REMEMBER NOVEMBER 3rd” Or REMEMBER NOV 3rd seems suspiciously lame… (somehow)… (and as I said before how the hell could ANY REDUSER not remember that?)

I have re-read some of the REDINCI CODE posts, they are sort of funny because I can’t even tell if I’m taking the piss or not (myself)? Surely that is a sign of MSB or early stage RED induced schizophrenia. That’s how messed up things really are here on REDUSER…(but in a good way).

It was exactly at that point (in the passage you cite) that people were musing about 4K scarlet 5k scarlet 6k scarlet and so on…And JIM finally thought ENOUGH!!! I think that’s pretty genuine.

I think the basic lines of cameras are going to all stay on their pre-determined rails or train tracks. So there’s still the EPIC train, the REDONE train, maybe a new REDONE train, the Scarlet 3.somthingK train, and maybe the run and gun (I’ll call it cute little “Ember” train). These trains CANNOT jump tracks (in terms of price structure and capability), but I guess one train engine “read brain” can be upgraded to run bigger faster better on the same "line"; whether one "train" can be ugraded to run on different lines (probably isn't the case) as as this will damage the whole price structure vs capability "paradigm". Unified form factor for Scarlet, REDONE and EPIC all make sense. (at least to me)… AT LEAST YOU KEEP YOUR LENSES AND ACESSORIES; so maybe that points to more unified sensor sizes (at least in the same ball park size wise). I have no real sense of DRAGON, I also feel that the K as such should not be linearly scaled as 3k, 4k ,5k 6k kind of thing as its diminishing returns VS mucho bucks.???

Who knows... Jim did say “crazy train” Ozzy Osborne reference maybe the big deal is that they can jump tracks (somehow). At least physically (apart from “Ember’) they are or will be the same. To me this doesn’t make abundant sense to me (even as a madman).

I hear you so many things i have not bought or had looked at just in case it cuts into scarlet price ? and not knowing that means the only thing i live on is beer anyway im thinking about all the things ill say to scarlet when we meet.
