  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I Want a Scarlett NOW

Definatley still buying a scarlet as soon as its released . IT is worth the wait , burning the heads of my Gl2 and panasonic DVX100 in the mean time . May get a Lumix Gh1 for fun . Sounds like the scarlet is back on track after a major fimware bug has been resolved (hurray ) .

Yeah I'm still playing with my GL2 too. Thought about selling it and getting a GH1 and a PL adapter so I could at least test some of my 16mm glass.
Scarlet Cinema can't come soon enough for me!

Epic seen on Entourage

Epic seen on Entourage

Just watched the second to most recent Entourage on HBO. The car scene is showing an Epic. Looks great!

i watched that with friends and was like "oh shit that's an epic" and everyone just looked at me like an idiot haha

Rhett Butler: [holds her tighter] Scarlett! Look at me! I've loved you more than I've ever loved any woman and I've waited for you longer than I've ever waited for any woman.:smile5:

I have been taking a break from posting, but this stuff is comedic to me. We are still wondering if these are tattoos? :)

BTW, what's a Scarlett? Oh, that one girl...

Why take the arrogant tone? Is the answer obvious to you? ...or do you think it shouldn't matter?

There is a post from Jarred saying certain prototypes are Tattoos. There is a subsequent post from Jim Jannard implying the Tattoo program has not yet begun (how can it when they now have to go back and redesign the EPIC body?).

It's a significant milestone because it's an indication of how far we are from delivery. ...something that's on the minds of everyone on this forum and many, many others. ...including many who do/will make their living with current/future RED products.

Meanwhile, there is wayyyyy to much speculation about all sorts of things on this forum, which is why it is often difficult to know the facts.

Sorry about that. I didn't mean to come off as an arrogant person, and I could have re-worded some stuff to show it more clearly.

The whole "I Want a Scarlett NOW" was funny in and of it itself.

As far as the Tattoo program...

Correct... The Tattoo Program has already begun, Snake Oil, Lucky, Jackpot, Crackpot and Ghost are all Tattoo cameras that have been built in the last couple weeks. Several more are being assembled, and once Firmware V1.0 is ready, those new Tattoos will be delivered to the selected few that are in the Tattoo program.

If you care to be filled in on some stuff, I'd love to help. That's why I am here.

And again, sorry for coming off as an arrogant little fool... :iamwithstupid:

Thanks Joseph. :cheers2:

That post from Jarred is the one I was referring to, but Jim posted this just a few days ago...

Tattoo cameras will go out as soon as we have a stable platform with a standard set of features… production to follow as soon as the Tattoo owners give us the thumbs up. We are in a hurry… but not so much as to get it wrong. I don't think it is productive to promise another date… but we all are on the same page. The sooner the better.

Meanwhile, people have been speculating that the Tattoos have been given out.

IF you have some facts, then please share.

...and what happened to tumbled aluminum?? ..I know, I know "Everything in life changes... " :mad2:

I suppose it depends on how you define the tattoo programme. Flushing out the bug and discovering the need to add the extra 13mm to the body are precisely the type of problems tattoo phase was intended to reveal. I guess they mean tattoo hasn't gone to the wider selectees as yet

Building the Tattoos and releasing the Tattoos 'into the wild' are two different things.

They might be built but not released for testing. Considering the order of the two statements and the most recent being:
"Tattoo cameras will go out as soon as we have a stable platform with a standard set of features… production to follow as soon as the Tattoo owners give us the thumbs up. "

I think it's safe to say it hasn't started yet or it if it did start it started int he last week or so.

Based on this exchange;

Epic won't hit 2010. anyone over s/n 1000 wont get Epic until end of 2011 mid 2012
Wrong...

Jim

Ketch, you are a very positive thinker. That's a good thing. But Jim has said he won't be releasing it without sufficiant testing. He's also said he's adding 13mm to the brain. I dont imaging that this is a quick thing to implement and i cant see it all happening in the next 5 months.

Wrong... if EPIC isn't in the hands of many in 5 months, I'm in deep trouble.

Jim

Scarlet being Epic's little sister and being the scaled down version of the Epic, I think production models of Scarlet will trail very close behind Epic. :svengo:

Adding 13mm to the body and redesign and fab of new circuit boards is a matter of days not weeks with modern Cad/Cam CNC processes. It literally takes no longer than the time for an engineer to draw or modify a 3d cad model dump the file to a CNC mill and load it with an aluminum billet. They could easily go through several experimental body designs, build them and test them in week.
There are multiple commercial services that will turn a circuit board fab from a computer design file in 3 days or less. With in house manufacturing capability this too is very quick.
By the time Jim posted the info on the redesign it was probably already done. Over the last year or so when they posted updates on designs or pictures of prototype hardware it was stated that what we were seeing was a couple of months behind where they actually were in the process.
They are not doing complete redesigns at this point, this is just final tweaks. Adding a little extra space in the body and board layouts to insure thermal stability, upgrade components or eliminate circuit crosstalk is not going to delay things much.

The final production Tattoos that the privileged handful of people will keep and own may not have been distributed yet. But this is not to say that they haven't been quietly passing around prototypes for tests and feedback under strict NDA's, then taking them back and making modifications. The whole Tattoo program is just that, prototype testing by a few trusted early adopters. Working pros with extensive knowledge and experience with the R1. Last we heard there were only going to be 20 of these cameras.

Of course all of this is just speculation.
