  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

BMCC 4k RAW $3,995 -------- > I like ...

Can We see a price change in RED Scarlet ? ----------> $3,999 before July 25, 2013

What do I want ?

what you want is the camera that performs best for what you can afford. One camera has been available for a while, with ample footage, user feedback, etc. The other has yet to prove what it can do as it has only been used by a handful of people. I'd wait it out until you can test both.

AHHHH... There are people still waiting for their BMCC 2.5K cameras they bought last summer :001_huh: So it might be prudent to wait to compare a Scarlet with an "actual" BMCC 4k - righ now is just a data-sheet spec

I like BMCC for the pricepoint... but it's nowhere near as nice as a Scarlet. I haven't seen the specs on the new one but the old one isn't a full sensor, there's terrible jellowcam, the battery is internal (you have to rig up and external plug-in) and the footage saves only to a harddrive internally. Again, you can still make great films with this but not in a professional setting as you have to stopdown to offload.

I've only seen one great-looking test shoot with the BMCC and it was by a professional, there amateur "test" footage is awful, from what I've need (no better than DSLRs)... whereas I've seen great professional Scarlet footage as well as amateurs getting great results. The Scarlet is pretty idiot-proof... but with the BMCC, you have to be a solid shooter to get what you want out of it.

scarlet was a data sheet spec for a very long time as well.... Soooo your point.....

i also seen a lot of awful scarlet test shots as well and some horrible epic shots.

I like your answer best .... People cant tell you why not to get one ..... Wait time and all that is BS RED took years to release it cameras .... So i am just weighing my options ..... Steve Sherrick good Sh!t my man...Professional mean coming up with professional answer not BS

Odds are after the dragon trade ins. All the scarlets that were traded in for a epic will be put in the battle tested section for 4k with your choice of mount. (Since they would also try to get rid of the older mounts since they will try to push forward with motions mounts)

get that BMC its the best camera in the world 10x more dynamic range than alexa 10x more resolution from epic..and its 3900$

Being that he already knows everything, he clearly knows you are right ;) But what he doesn't know is that the BMCC, I heard, not only doubles 22 stops of latitude to an unheard of 44, it adds an extra one, making it 45 stops... AND it's the world's first double full sensor where it shoots two (Canon) lenses at the same time. I could be wrong, but I heard at NAB that it shoots 3D as well.

All for under $4,000. Amazing deal, he's right, I don't know what I was thinking buying RED.

the internal battery is nice when switching batteries and not having to power down. I wish RED cameras implemented this, and the bmcc doest record to an internal hard drive. it records to off the shelf 2.5" SSDs, another thing i wish RED did.

You have 0 knowledge about the new BMCC's, why waist our time dribbling on? Do some tests, believe me, this little Aussie company is going to really shake the industry up more then anyone in history has....Yes, I'll bet on it...How much?

There are plenty of ways to get a RED Scarlet or Epic to run like that, it is a modular system after all.....

and the bmcc doest record to an internal hard drive. it records to off the shelf 2.5" SSDs, another thing i wish RED did.

And the lower level of QC on those off the shelf drives means even the tested and approved ones drop frames....

Don't get me wrong the BMCC is a fine camera but some of its strengths are also flaws...

If you have the side handle, and have a v mount on the back, I believe you can hot swap the v mount batteries.
