this may be better suited in cinematography.com.. but maybe here...

It might be fun to do a little contest thing where once a month we pick a scene that we must interpret and light the scene..

this can be a fun learning experience, and be a fun tool for experimenting with new ideas..

example:

INT. Kitchen- Night

Man walks into kitchen to open fridge, grabs orange juice, drinks it out of the box, hears a noise outside, goes to investigate.

END

I don't know... clearly I'm bored and just want some stuff to shoot..

I think thats an awesome Idea.

An excellent way to show off te broad range of the MX chip, and the community behind it... Perhaps Red could offer a small handy accessory to the winner of a popular vote. NATO clamp, for example.

Or is a non-competitive, friendly-exchange the better approach?

and I don't think we should limit it to any camera.. obviously RED will be the main choice for most people.. but if you can't afford a red and only have a 5d, 7d, gh2 whatever.. it doesn't matter.. this isn't about cameras.. this is about the real skill.. lighting

or how about ...

INT. Kitchen- Night

Naked Woman walks into kitchen to open fridge, grabs orange juice, drinks it out of the box, hears a noise outside, goes to investigate.

END

by man i meant mankind.. so yah.. naked WO-MAN works..your interpretation.. I mainly want to see lighting set ups.. types of lamps used..shot choice.. so on..
I guess i should make a dedicated thread to this competition if there is enough people interested.. then maybe set a deadline..

So, if I get arrested you guys help to explain why I was lurking on some poor women's back yard trying to get a shot of her naked opening her fridge??

Zak,

Great idea. It will be nice to have the same scene lit and shot differently with commentary and if possible a bts narrative on the how and why they lit/shot the way they did. Much like a film school project with lets say a 1 week deadline for each project. Then everyone critique.

Bravo

Pretty cool idea.

Im in If I have time.

Scene idea:
Day
interior / exteriOr split

Someone hears a knock at the front door and goes to answer...

Comes face to face with a neighbor lady...
