I am a bit fascinated to see just how soon and by how much a guy like Jim will increase the price of his product. I mean, the dollar has been doomed for a long time but now that it is in its next "leg down" my interest has peaked to a higher level. People paying with Euros must be ecstatic.

I guess $19.995 would seem the next logical step but that does not seem like much. Perhaps mid 20's by this time next year?

If you think about it, putting a reservation on a RED body now you are getting ahead because the body was priced based on the strength of the dollar from a few years ago. Of coursce Jim is a man of the world so I assume he did predict some loss of value of the USD and priced the product accordingly, but quite likely not enough to compensate for the steep decline that has since occurred.

Ok I just talked myself into putting in another reservation or two. LOL!

The weak dollar increases exports; I don't understand your logic?
RED is in the USA, and they operate with USD.

Inflation baby, inflation :) And do you think all the parts/materials are from USA? This is 2008 not 1950.

Inflation?

$17,500.00USD in 2007 has the same buying power as $17,815.49USD in 2008.

I don't quite see that as desperately crying out for a price increase, especially given the fact that with higher quantities, manufacturing costs are lower.

I think RED one is a loss-leader for the Scarlet, thus no price increase in the immediate future. The R & D will be charged off to the RED one and much of what has been learned will be utilized by Scarlet. And Scarlet will sell because of the continuing popularity of the RED one.

Next year they'll be up way higher.

Still, I don't think they'll increase the price.

Good point.

Anyway, I will bump this thread one year from today. I expect 2008 to be an interesteing ride.

In the mean time I am grabbing some more res spots because it seems to be one of the more sound currencies at the moment. :sarcasm:

This may all change because of the stimulus act that is going to take place. Were taking out a loan from china of some obtuse number of 6 billion dollars or something to give every American money to spend on Chinese products. It will only work if you spend the money, not put it in savings. Bush thinks that if everyone has more money, we will spend it, therefore stimulating the economy. I don't know what it will actually do but yeah, just thought id throw that in the mix.

"to give every American money to spend"

not everybody gets the tax rebate ... there's a income limit ...
what income bracket really pays 80% of the fed taxes ?
which bracket is not getting the rebate ?

People who make very little money (less than $3000 per year) also don't get the tax rebate. Apparently those people don't deserve the rebate because they didn't work hard enough to earn the free handout. Or maybe the government figures it would be a waste to give the ultra-poor any money, since poor people would just put it into their savings account instead of spending it on food and warm clothing. :cold:

Oxymoron.

Joel, he's the CEO of a 3 trillion dollar economy, CinCAFWorld (commander-in-chief of American forces worldwide) has a higher IQ than John Kerry (and probably you and I as well... check his military testing records) has floun into the face of danger (Iraq, twice and South America as well), has raised two daughters, and you are disrespectful of the man's ox?

Yes, he's in politics and as one of the little people you can insult him and he will defend your right to do so. But you know that or you wouldn't challenge and old-timer who can very likely clean your clock in short order.

But when you go calling a man's ox a moron, well, if I'm on the jury of his trial I say it was justifiable ass whipping, if he should decide to administer that to you.

Oh, that reminds me... how many times has Hillary been to Iraq as opposed to Obama? Maybe that's why Obama wants the troops home, so if he's elected President he won't have to risk his life going there. Maybe that's why he will always be willing to negotiate everything. Just keep backing up slowly and let the next President after him clean up the mess, like Jimmy Carter did.

Oh, and I predict the RED will hold its value better than any other commodity, as Davis proposed, even through 4 oBAMa years.

My opinion of Bush is that he does not HAVE to think. Regardless if the President is Republican or Democrat they unltimately all have elites behind the scenes who "guide" them. Come on, does anyone REALLY think Bush calls the shots? :)
I mean, other presidents at least seem to be capable of calling the shots but to try to pass Bush off as a leader is a new low for humanity.

Come, come, aren't you being a little harsh on us humans?

But anyway, to throw in a reference to the thread, I think the camera bodies may stay the same price but the accessories may become more expensive.

hey! we hijacked the thread to IRS rebates and now it hijacked on bush/iraq - not fair - lets stick to the really important issue here = REBATES for the those earning over 75ksingle/150k joint & POOR earning under 3000 ?

I think raising the price of RED once all the bugs are worked out makes a lot of sense. Right now purchasers are taking a risk and should be able to buy at a discount. With the shrinking dollar and the price inelasticity of a product like RED there's no reason no to raise prices and target international buyers. They are the biggest market IMHO. I don't think accessories will go up in price because there is already firm competition in that area.

Oh... and whatever illusion of what's left of this economy is based on a 3 trillion dollar credit card purchase that has infused this economy with money that wouldn't be there without it. The Chinese have bankrolled it and your grandchildren will pay it back.

Ya know when you're 23 and you go out and buy stuff with your first credit card? You feel rich. Same with America right now... and the sad thing is consumer confidence is at the lowest in 15 years. And that's DURING an artificially inflated economy.

Bush is building China, not the U.S.

Thanks heavens we have a president that understands, world politics, global economics and foreign policy. Just think of the kind of trouble we would be in if he was completely inept...
We could be at war, have a depression looming, an immigration crisis and be at the mercy of big oil companies with an energy crisis looming…..that would be bad.

Thanks for watching out for us GW...That guy is really something!
