  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I ordered the BT Red MX with SSD Module the day it was announced.

I ordered it last week 2Nov. But till now nothing seems happened to the order. The order was confirmed but there's no status update about my order. And I contacted the bomb squad because I want to adjust the order by removing the nikon mount from the list and change the 2x48gb SSD to the 4x48gb SSD pack. But no one seems to be taking care of the order. Perhaps you guys are uber busy due to the sudden huge amount of new order.

But I'm concern that am I 100% will be able to get the camera once the order successfully made? Or we need to "lucky draw" if too many of the people are purchasing them?
Because I'm starting spending money looking for Red One accessories.

Thanks.

I would suspect bomb squad reps are overwhelmed right now, but I am sure they won't lose your order. Just shoot an email to your rep if you have one...

If the past is any indicator, it's going to be a while before everyone gets their reduced price cameras and required accessories. This is why I didn't understand the scale of the price decrease. Economics states that if you reduce price, you increase demand. If you decrease price further, you increase demand even more. I think RED chose price points for all three cameras beyond their ability to reasonably meet demand. I hope I'm wrong. Even if RED's assembly line can crank them out, quality control, customer service, billing, fraud prevention and support are often bigger bottlenecks.

For all we know, some customers may have ordered hundreds of cameras the moment the announcement was made. How do you know a rental company or director didn't throw down $100,000 for 25 RED MX's? Also, I believe RED has made exceptions in the past for high-profile feature films prioritizing their orders in the queue such as when Peter Jackson bought 30 EPIC-M's before others in the queue received theirs. Someone correct me if I am wrong on this. I am just trying to set expectations for delivery and explain the factors that might affect delivery.

The day the EPIC price decrease was announced, so many were complaining about the value of their cameras going down. I was thinking just the opposite, I think there are a lot of feature films preparing to shoot on EPIC that won't be able to get cameras for a while and will be forced to buy used complete packages. I know for certain that the value of my complete-package RED MX's went up that day because the available supply was essentially wiped out for some time to come. That always helps value. Who cares if a RED-MX is $4,000 if you cannot actually get one in your hands and cannot find reasonably priced used accessories for it.
