...why I have to have a sports car.

I'd never driven anything too impressive until last night. I met a friend who I hadn't seen in a while at a party last night and he had a new Mercedes SLK convertible. I asked for a ride and he tossed me the keys instead. I took it out and got it up to 90mph in a 30 :-).

Must...get...sports car...

You get the gig(s) and I'll be dropping it at FedEx out to ya faster than you can blink. I've got a backlog of script work enough to keep me busy!

wow, that sounds like a good deal!

Shawn,

You're a good man, appreciative of the very finest pleasures in life, rare whiskeys, one of the first RED cameras, and now you've discovered the undeniably testosteronic, testicular feel of the wind unruffling your hair as you drive an internal combustion device fast and hard. Welcome to the club! I'll also be glad to send you a couple of my rides in exchange for your camera while you tweak that script of yours!

I've had a lot of fun driving the Pontiac Solstice, Honda S2000 and Nissan 350Z Roadster recently... powerrrrrrr

I remember having my eyeballs pushed to the back of my skull in a 1967 Shelby Mustang with a 427ci cobra jet/muncie 4 speed/positrack rearend...
Or doing 0 to 100 in 5 seconds on a modified Kawasaki Ninja, sheeeeeit!!!!!!
It seems Ducati is releasing a 200hp street bike this year.

I'd love a 1967 Shelby Mustang, but not as my primary and only car ;)

I'm keeping away from the bikes. I prefer 4 wheels on the grond :)

I completely understand where you're coming from, Shawn...nothing beats a fine sports car. But if it's a pure speed and handling rush you're after, you gotta try a little amateur racing - I just returned from a couple days of driving as fast as possible at Willow Springs, a California road racing course and I can't seem to wipe the smile off my face. Come on down and I'll get you into our club's racing school. But beware, it's addicting.

My dad has a Ferrari 360 and an Aston Martin Vantage DB7, but I haven't actually gotten to drive either. Blasphemy, right?! I guess there's no way insurance would like me taking them out for a spin, hehe. But I love the 360, that's my dream car, so I'll probably buy one for myself in the next 5-8 years. I just have to make some extra cash first. Sports cars are not much of an investment, I mean yeah yeah you can keep it in the garage and it won't lose any value, it might even go up in value, but if I get a sports car I do want to drive it. Not every day to work, but at least take it out on the weekends or whatever, and the cost of maintenance on a sports car is ridiculous ($6,000 to replace the brakes on a Ferrari 360, then I heard the 20,000 mile mark sets you back about $30,000 in various part repairs). A lot of people can afford to buy a Ferrari. Very few can afford to OWN a Ferrari, lol. Insurance alone has to be scary.

I drive a car I used to really enjoy, and then I majorly side-swiped a pillar in my condo's garage and pretty much ruined the entire driver's side. I'll need the door replaced, probably a lot of body work done, it won't be cheap. I just don't feel like spending the money because I'm a practical guy and practically speaking if the car runs perfectly I don't care about wasting $3,000 fixing it when I could spend that $3,000 on new filmmaking equipment that would directly impact my work and my business. Cars are a lot of fun, but ultimately superficial, and anything beyond what gets you from point A to B safely is a luxury that I'll wait a bit for.

I don't want to be old by the time I get a killer sports car, though, I want to get one before I'm 35 so that it won't be like a mid-life crisis car. Wherever my dad goes in that 360, there's a crowd around the car soon enough, it's like a celebrity or something, and I can't imagine how empowering that would be driving that car around where you know everyone is looking at your car and seeing who is in it. That's pretty much awesome. ;)

I rather have a sports car than a house. I figure i make some money and get myself a Lambo... if i cant afford a house its ok. i all just get a car. much more fun. a house is good and all but its not like a nice sports car. No matter where u are everyone wants to be around you... because your in a gosh dang Lamborghini =)

Nothing is better than a Lamborghini, NOTHING :D

Hey Shawn,

My parents retired ten years ago to a farm out in Hillsboro.

I return to the Portland area every year for Christmas to visit, it's beautiful.

Here's one for you: When you begin to wonder what can provide those sensations even more than a sports car...try a sports motorcycle.

The highest-end sports cars offer sensations that just begin to get close to those you get on a high-end bike.

Jon

In the spirit of one upping, consider the difference in the feel of a fast bike and fast car, try a high performance sport or aerobatic aircraft!

A GF of mine had a badass drop-top $130k Porsche, and yeah, it's awesome. I raced a Corvette on Malibu Canyon Road and took him to the cleaners.

Only thing for me is that I love camping and 4x4ing, so an SUV is a must. Now, if I ever get filthy rich, it's gonna be a convertible Ferrari or a Lambo. :)

Jonathan: you're dad has a couple of nice cars ;) I would not have waited so long to drive 'em, that's for sure! Let me know if you need a stick-shift guru :)

Hey Jon, that's cool! Hillsboro is fantastic place.

I've never ridden a motorbike of any kind before, I shall have to remedy that.

I'm a manager at a Valet company for my day job, and I've driven some great cars. The best one yet is the Mercedes S600. This thing would kick the shit out of most other sports cars. V12 twin turbo...That's all that needs to be said.

But, in closing, I've never gotten up to 100mph so fast in my entire life. It had to be 7 seconds or so.
