I need some help

I have bought an used red one mx from somebody else

And now Im confused, I think I was sold a camera that doesn't even work. I trusted him, the thing is... Im facing different issues. I bought a red one drive and it just doesn't recognise it, the camera doesn't recognise any media. why is this?m whenever I add any media, card or red one drive, the camera software gets jammed OR slow. I can't format them. Why is this happening?. I think the camera works fine, it feels like it works great except when I add any media.

Hi Diego,

There could be a number of issues here. From what I understand from your message here:

1. The camera boots up and works, until mounting media; CF and HDD (yes?)
2. The HDD is an official RED harddrive and it is in good operational condition (yes?)

Let us try and trouble shoot here first. Boot up your camera and check the "firmware". It should be with the latest firmware, if not, you will need to update it. here is a link to do so: https://www.red.com/download/red-one-firmware ~ if you have a CF card to do so. The camera, when updating the latest firmware should boot and run itself until completed.

You might also benefit from a complete system reset. Also, check to see if there is a build up of dust or anything around the ventilation ports and observe if your R1 gets overly hot in standard operational conditions. You might need to give it a simple clean overall.

2. The Harddrive: Check the condition of the cables and ports of the drive and on your camera. Sometimes it could be a cable that is just in need of replacing. There could also be a possibility that the HDD is old and had a good hard life and you might have gotten yourself a dead block. In which case, you might need to find or test another one out to see if this is an issue with the HDD and not and issue with your camera.

It sounds to me to be an issue with the media you have. They only way you can find out this is by testing out other drives, if you can find them. That is the problem with older media, like the R1-HDD's, they are really ancient.

My advice: try and find yourself an SSD module for the R1-MX and pick up a few REDMAG's. Then you can lighten the load and have faster, newer media. Although, I believe finding the SSD module is a task, but not impossible. You might have to ask the R1 owners if they have one they would be willing to sell you.

I hope that this first trouble shoot gets you over the line and shooting on the R1.

Hey man,

What happening so far:

Camera upgrade is 30.7

Everytime I connect an CF card into the camera, it doesn't boot properly. It gets stuck in a white screen.
I tried using a red drive, it does boot and it sort of sound like it's reading the drive, but when I try to format it, it says 'formatting failed'. Doesn't seem to recognise the drive either.

At this point it's hard to upgrade camera just doesn't seem to recognise any media. Is this bad?. should I just give up and try using a different camera.

Is it a RED or red approved CF card? I think they only allowed one other card other than Red cards. Maybe Lexar. It's been a thousand years so I forget.

Your card issue may not be related to your drive issue.

Hi Nick, yep Ive got red CF cards and red drives. Neither seem to work.

oh THIS could help, when I try to format cf cards, it sends a message, 'no digimag' . which is strange because I don't have a digimag.

Another thing happened guys!!!!

Sorry I really don't know much about this camera but, I changed 'reel' to 129. and I changed 'redcode' and now it shows a message ' Disk unmounted' (before it used to show 'no digimag') I have used a red one drive

when I tried cf CARDS and it gets stuck (white blank screen), sounds like the fan and the cpu is working but then it stops. And it shows nothing but a blank white screen.

Ok holy s.. I dunno how i did it, but at this moment the disk status is finally 'formatting'
