Can anyone recommend a good way to protect Red One against dust, sand and water splashing? (Burning Man vets?) I don't want a full underwater housing, just something to protect the camera while I am out shooting in the sand dunes at Glamis for example, or to protect against a small amount of accidental water splashing.

I'd like to keep costs down, of course. Thanks! :cheers2:

Maybe something a little more sleek and form-fitting? :biggrin5:

If you're interested in an economical but full-function Splash Bag, then I highly suggest you look at the T-Bag from ASL Gear (sold exclusively worldwide by ABEL CINE TECH). The T-Bag can hold a fully kitted RED One, incorporates a mechanical follow focus, comes with either a 4"HD-SDI underwater monitor or an underwater housing for your own 5.6" RED LCD, has options for a dome port and dual rotating 4x5.65 filter tray and a shoulder pad and lots of other great functionality. The Compact T-Bag can fit a stripped down RED One with a prime lens. They are top notch options and worth checking out.

Thanks for that, Mitch. I think what I am looking for is something between your suggestion and Shawn's. Maybe something in the $500 - $1,000 rage?

Element Technica makes a pretty slick, formfitting one for the Red One.

*Edit* Note to self, read all the posts first!

SEALCAM Splash Bag... price tag?

You know, it occurs to me that it would be awesome to make a dust/splash housing that makes the Red camera somehow look like a piece of crap. This way, people will not even be able to see the Red and will not take you seriously if you are shooting in public places.

Hey Tom,

I've found most purpose built devices wanting and too hard to use. Filming with R1 in dust, snow, rain and other nastiness on the grand canyon, ecuador and elsewhere - we put gaff tape over the lens to cam connection gaps, over ALL the connectors. Then use umbrellas, and silnylon stuff sacks to cover the camera, with ziplocks over the EVF and / or LCD. Using higher end Canon sealed glass, then hoods or mattebox and filters to protect the lenses. I've also use large sized ziplocks over the entire camera at times to good effect. All works great. Red is pretty tough.

Keep it simple.

Anson
