  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

"I just saw Avatar" Thread

you don't shoot a bow with your left hand on the string, those crazy na'vians must be cacky handed.

Yarrr! but I bet those darn pirates didn't do it stereoscopically did they! I want shit quality 3D, not shit quality 2D!

P.S. Anyone who watches pirate copies of anything doesn't deserve to have a conversation on this forum or any other movie/TV based forum, let alone work in this industry. You're shitting on your own doorstep!

Upside...no one here went back and wanted to paint their girlfriend blue and sticky tape her nose down...apparently some guy here in the UK wanted to do that right after Avatar O.o

I really didn't think she was that great looking...but glad we've digressed into politics and understanding of the sub message in Avatar haha...

Surely you can shoot a bow either handed?

If you're referring to the inverted draw hand, apparently archery experts told Cameron it wouldn't work. That was until Cameron hit a target using that technique!

They make left handed bows. I'm left eye dominant and was recommended to use a left handed bow, but I found adjusting my eyes was easier than adjusting my hands.

Fox Australia just released some industry stats about the films performance in this country...

* Approx 1 in 5 Aussies has seen AVATAR * Darling Harbour (SYDNEY) IMAX has 2nd largest takings in the world for a single screen *

Saw Avatar again and had a deeper appreciation for what Cameron has done. Sadly my wife broke down in severe pain from the 3d induced headache :-/. I coached her through closing one eye to "turn off" the 3d effect. She enjoyed the movie though

Love the Darling Harbor IMAX... some fond memories there.

By the way:

Rank Title Studio Worldwide Domestic / % Overseas / % Year
1 Avatar Fox $1,897.4 $561.3 / 29.6% $1,336.0 / 0.4% 2009

I've seen the behind-the-scenes of every Cameron movie. He proved people wrong more than once about things he was told wouldn't work.

Don't mess with the Cameron.

I enjoyed that review many times more than I enjoyed the movie

James Cameron v. Wild Bill -- who's your money on?

Bill doesn't seem to get past his myopic and narrow comparison with Dances With Wolves.

Dances With Wolves, is of course, completely irrelevant to Avatar. This is a story of conquest by more advanced cultures over less advanced cultures, such has been the case since Alexander, and before.

Bill seems to have been personally insulted by the comparison to current US imperialism, which Cameron deliberately made. The game never changes. Only the specifics, the weapons, the time, place and characters. The native American experience, while represented, is not what this is about. Cameron made it universal.

Seeing how this is now the biggest movie of all time, Bill might want to dig a little deeper (ironically, what he accuses Cameron of not doing).

Avatar (2009): Anti-Imperialism Sells

Good discussion. FYI- I think the guy is hilarious: film reviews in character. But, take them with a grain of salt.
