Doctor,
today i received my first 8g cf. Until now I slept for a few minutes, the rest, of the time filming and downloading, with a permanent smile on the face like the
the first time that...
Red one is the camera of my dreams, but during my very short sleep i had a dream, i was filming with epic at 6k, 2000f/sec, in a 64g cf.
I woke up saying whoaahhh!!!! and continue the shooting with red one!

Thank you red team, and reduser fellowship.

I dreamt about a great story with superb actors. And then I took my red with only 4K and 8GB CF and 24 fps. Everybody liked my film and nobody was disapointed about the picture quality. And then I waked up and knowed that the story, the story telling, the light and the locations counts more than 10 Billion pixels.

Ha,Ha!!!
No humor?

Of course the content is the first thing, otherwise there is not point in telling it.
But please someone give me an example of what is a good story for you, because of all this crazy devotion to good stories that everyone looks attached to, with their heads covered by aces, has not a shadow of a corrispondence in the mountain of films that are made, watched, and admittedly adored like cults.

A different thing, the same thing: I keep reading legends and prayers concerning good to fabulous lights as if having decent lights in a movie were something so inaccessible that ordinary movies were all suffering of this. Isn't it more difficult to fight with the technolgy you have and otherwise to innovate making some incredible cameras, than putting a damned light at the right place in a damned set, and of course to be creative artistic according to the case, like I'm sure directors of photography usually do (since it's part of their job)?
I sniff too much apprehension about lights, around. Every time one says something about a technological advance, camera resolution... hop! the rabbit from the hat: lighting is fundamental. What can we say: oh really?
What about simply good photography? A good direction of photography is much beyond mere good light. Good light is the least important thing, compared to what is in front of the camera, the choice of subjects, landscapes, furniture, devices, and anything concrete that is in the frame, has to have a photographic value in order to allow the puplic to say that a film is visually gorgeous. Part of this is made by the director of photography, part by film director, part by costume designer and makers, part by who has choosen locations, part by special effects artists if there is any, and more.
Say what you want, but having a band of electricians positioning the lights under the direction of the photographer is not such a big problem; it is a quick bit, compared to all that.
Lights fanatics... I would like to see some original and stunnig light like the one they talk about every time, perhaps in some of their works.
Don't dream about a great story: just write it, or take it from some literature.
Don't don't dream about superb actors: just find some good ones, they exist. And direct them well, in stories that is are laughable as the average stories that are turned into movies for no other apparent reason than entertaining the easier-going watchers.
While you can only dream about a technology allowing you to do something not possible before, if it is not delivered to you. The rest, you don't need to dream: the human special faculties you talk about, only need to be applied to reality without too much dreaming and unthinkable light.

the story telling, the light and the locations counts more than 10 Billion pixels.

1) yes but the story is told by all the factors;
2) yes but the light is one of the smallest/easiest problems;
3) the location, yes of course. This time you got one right;
4) yes but it can hardly make a movie shot with 10 pixels look good. So, stay on track.

anyway, WHY DO PEOPLE ALWAYS HAVE TO TALK ABOUT AN IMAGINARY COMPETITION BETWEEN PHOTOCAMERA/VIDEOCAMERA AND CONTENT?
WHAT CAN I DO TO MAKE YOU UNDERSTAND THAT IT DOS NOT EXIST?!?

hahahaha, it will never change...

Since most of movies are nothing special (to be fair), why are they even shot with decent cameras? The camera is less important then the content, you know it, so if the story was bad, camera could well be worse. Maybe it SHOULD be worse, or it would be an insult to the story.
When they tell us crap, why not also make our eyes bleed?
I know... it's a stupid answer in the form of stupid question to a never dieing stupid argument.

To go on on this clever and up to date tool-versus-content competition, anyone wants to talk about how UNIMPORTANT the car is to racing pilots? Brushes and colors to painters?
Canines to tigers?
The camera community clearly has some problems.

Fuck you all, TOOLS ARE FUNDAMENTAL. full stop.
If tools are inferior, the result is inferior, unless you help yourself with other factors, that is, other tools. Because everything you make, you make it not with else, with words floating in space, but with tools. And when you say something, you use either a mouth, a hand and a pen, an amplifier, tools, and the better the tools, the more you can do.
fundamental for artists, technicians, for people who use them, for every one.
While I'm not devoted to them, of course I recognize that tools have always been fundamental for every step of this so called evolution, althoug this evolution must have reversed, or more probably progressed to a point where we don't undertand the essential and argue about everything and the simplest things... from what is what... to principles.
And adore kids movies that do not mean anything like... ... ... for which this orfaned planet has spent more money in the making, consuming, gadgets and tributes than a country expense for nutrition for a year (guessing... don't know at all if it's true).........

lighting is most important for me, too. it`s what makes roger deakins, emmanuel lubezki, rodrigo prieto etc. so special over those billions of others.
