  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I dream of his stills/motion combo. Am I kidding myself.

To me it's all about the stills. I have confidence that the motion is already there.

Tell me if this could ever happen.

A dsmc that produces a huge stills file. Awesome quality. Medium format quality. Big sensor, big file, beautiful quality.

All the stills controls, aperture, ISO AND real shutter speed control. Bulb to super fast. 2500th or 5000th of a second, that sort of thing. I would probably settle for 500th of second. Can this already be done with the Leica lens?

I produce and sell big prints, landscape style but to shoot motion at the same time would be "epic". Double product to shoot and sell.

Mind blowing promotional footage to build the profile.

One camera.

When active, (not yet) the Still mode can do this with any lens, up to a 8000th of a second, as it is not a lens option but a in camera function.

Current resolution of 14MP is surprisingly producing images which are superior to those I printed off my Canon 1Ds III which has 21MP.

The RED DRAGON, could bring a big surprise as far as resolution, however my Still extraction tool will be the EPIC 645, till then I', working on our first EPIC gallery,
also in 3D, should be a fun presentation when ready, and the prints will be in various sizes depending on viewing distance calculated for the Gallery, some will be HUGE!!

Is it possible to sync flash lighting with the current firmware?

As Brian said, not currently, however I have been successfully been capturing amazing Shots with Flash firing via remote using Profoto Flash/triggers,
and then extracting those frames which have been exposed at the time of the Flash firing, really great results, especially when firing in HSS, which of course should be only HS as there no Sync... ;)

Sorry I can't show any of the Photos as they are for a Gallery showing, and only then they will be seen first, I'll publish them after words.

Now if we are to be more specific about the DRAGON, Jim announced as a Sensor upgrade for both EPIC M and X, we with EPIC M8,
sure hope to be the amongst the very first to do this upgrade, but it was never said to be for Scarlet X, even so technically of course this could be done,
but also via the need to replace an undisclosed amount of internal electronics and supporting boards, which IMO will surely make the RED DRAGON to
Scarlet X upgrade well, ridiculous, as it will still not be able to perform at its full power, as the MX sensor coming from the EPIC M and X
included in the Scarlet X can't perform to its fullest.

Ketch: This is exactly what I'm planing on doing when my stage 3 baby finally arrives (*cough cough) at the moment I do my filming work with a RED ONE MX and my stills work with a Nikon D3s. In the near future I'm hoping to do everything with just my Epic system.
Would be very interested to see some of these results if you would be happy to share them

Actually I must say that after many, and I mean many years of Still photography work, I never been happier then shooting Strobes with EPIC... ;)

Direct the models, Run the camera at high frame rate, most of the time 48fps, some times 96 or 120, I try never to go higher,
unless I really need to as I don't want to shoot below 5K for prints, but also unless I need the Slow Mo video, I try to stay at 48fps maximum,
so that I can keep the Redcode compression to a minimum.

The shots so far taken are for a grand gallery showing, so none of this can be shared, however on one of my next shoots, as I still have about 9 or 10 to do,
I'll be sure to get an extra girl, which will not appear in to the gallery showing, and I'll share those, also making a BTS video, witch btw, will include a very specific
and detailed way of how I do it, then to each its own, but this will be how I do it, for those that wish to give it a try in the same way and have not done it before or
have no idea then they can just see the BTS video and know exactly how to do it... ;)

Okay, I was going to wait, but I just started a new Thread about the full detail of the actual Videos here: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showth...n-for-the-REDUSER-COMMUNITY-is-in-the-MAKING-

awesome thanks for that, please keep us posted, cant wait to see, this is exactly what I've been waiting for.
i did some simple available light tests with my R1 and the results were nice....but i cant wait to see how much more amazing its going to be on the epic.

Ketch, what can we say? Generosity must be your middle name. Much appreciated and inspiring. Take care.

Wow Ketch.. That would be so great and generous. Can't wait for the BTS. Shooting stills is exactly what I want to explore with my Epic M in 2012

I think the best stills will always come from a camera which makes stills as a priority over motion.

Not true, as at the ned what differentiates one vs the other is only the amount of frame one can shoot per second vs. the other.

Of course as of now, RED EPIC can't shoot past certain Shutters, once this changes then all bets are off for a simple Still camera, they will be Obsolete in time in the Professional world,
just as Film is doing, it will not happen overnight, but it will, it has happened for me, despite the longer set up time of EPIC, I will choose it over Still camera every time, unless of course I need
a specific Shutter speed, that no matter how creative I get I can't possibly get, yet again, once Shutter speeds control in the Still motion are available on Epic... ;)

Most of the times costs so little to make some one happy, I'm stunned why don't more people do it, and do it often... ;)
You may have that spelling correction at no cost! :-P

But seriously, you are right. I believe in 'pay it forward'. If I give someone a camera, I hope that they will one day do the same for somebody else. This is how progress happens, I think. I wish that I could give more, actually.

Photographers can sometimes be very protective of their photos. For example, some wedding photographers do not give the negatives (or digital files) to the client. That, to me, is too restrictive. I am not a dedicated wedding photographer but I have done one or two weddings. And in both cases I gave the client the full sized images (the ones that were good, obviously). It is your wedding, and so you should keep all the photos (after I'm paid).
