I'm continuously reading about people demanding for their Scarlet Fixed with the 2/3" sensor...
I'm also continuously reading about people happy with their new Scarlet X.
I think that people at RED know what they're doing. They're not stupid.
Maybe selling thousand of ScarletX they're catching more attention from many people (remember also the same phenomen that happens with Apple, you start buying an iPod and within a year you'll have three Mac at home).
At the same time RED becomes bigger and maybe could ship more cameras faster then they're doing now, and satisfy a market that is surely bigger then the ScarletX one.
They could re-use some components of the actual ScarletX to make the Scarlet Fixed even cheaper.
Today most gaming pc allows you to edit realtime in Premiere with at least 1/4res. Probably in next two years they'll be capable of edit 1/2 res even on the cheapest machine and satisfy again the market that Scarlet fixed is aimed for: people that are amazed from REDCODE but doesn't shoot features, but documentaries or similars. Maybe TV shows?
I think that Scarlet Fixed isn't ready for the market because RED can't guarantee the properly mass production for this market.
But RED is growing and i'm really happy, I hate working with AVCHD footage or even H264 after have worked on Epic footage... I (like most of you) want to shot REDCODE every time!
I personally don't need to buy this camera, but if the number of REDCODE-cameras will grow I'll need a RedRocket
But, there are some things to say...
3K isn't enough now, next scarlet should be at least 4K (3840x2160), because of the 4K TVs.
4K isn't too much for a 2/3" sensor? Low light is heavily compromised with these little pixels?
Maybe a 4/3" at 4K and then go with cropped resolutions?
Specs could be these:
4K 2/3" (or 4/3") (3K and FullHD cropped mode).
30fps @ 4K; 60fps @3K and 2K.
REDCODE 12bit
CF recording or maybe the newest XQD cards.
18-180 f/2.8 zoom (equivalent)
No HDRx, No Overcranking over 60fps
Built in XLR in
With these "limited" functionality the cost should be kept down...
What do you think about it?
