Have had this idea on my mind for a bit now...finally got some weather that I wanted to work with here in California. Here's the result from 2 hour shoot and an immediate turnaround the same day (today). Hope you guys enjoy! It's just a simple piece that I wanted to create to make everyone feel something hopefully.

Big shoutout to Dave Weber who was the main actor and voice narration for me on this one! You rock sir! Thanks for coming last minute to fulfill my vision.

Were at the beach at 6am to catch the sunrise and morning rain. Also, I was praying that the beach would be empty so I didn’t have to worry about background - which was a blessing as there was like no-one there. Like who else would want to go to a beach when it’s raining? I would! hehe

We spent 2 hours walking up and down the beach getting all kinds of various shots. Just as we were about to leave the sun really started to peak through the clouds creating some nice backlight. I wanted to stay to get a few more shots and I’m thankful we did, as there was a HUGE flock of seagulls near the water. I walked all the way down to the opposite end and had my buddy hang back and start walking slowly…and hence we have the closing shot!

I knew I wanted to shoot it all handheld, for a more raw and organic look.

I went strong with the grade as that’s what I was going for. I picked music the day before on the Music Bed, so I knew what I had to match visually in my mind. I didn’t do any story-boarding as I didn’t want to limit myself as I feel that boards sometimes do that since you can get very focused on the mission at hand.

We wrapped the shoot and I recorded the VO in my car.

I came back to my edit bay and cranked away on the edit. Only took a few hours to do. Edited in FCPX. Graded with FCPX Color Finale and RCX.

Shoot Details:
RED Epic MX
5K WS
24fps timebase - shot at 72fps
Shot on 1 lens (didn’t want water getting inside the camera) - Zeiss Contax 35mm (I have an entire Contax lens set and that’s all I ever shoot on)
No post stabilization

Thanks guys!
