  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I Am Red Speaking

THAT IS A GREAT PICTURE! Love her white outfit and the look of rapture. This thread rocks.

I have a feeling we might find ourselves waking up in the Off Topic section confused and dishevelled though ;)

The look of film is like a vinyl LP record. Nothing too crisp, with lots of noise (in film, it's called grain.) Red is like a CD, crystal clear with more resolution. Anyone bought an LP recently?
I only buy LP's. Cd's are crap.

Red is more of a gorgonzola where as Film is more of a Mozzerella.or maybe a fine Edam.
By this logic it follows that reversal film is therefore something of a Roquefort pie with a crusty topping.
and Super 8 is clearly a Camembert.

You can make any CD sound like an LP. Have someone roll a bowling ball around on the floor above you. That will create the low frequency rumble. Start a tea kettle to get some nice hiss going. Then just turn off all the high frequencies. People perceive this as "warmth", and call CD's "cold", but it's really just a lack of clarity that you are used to.

The film analogy holds up. People like the soft look that grain creates. It's like having a promist on every shot.

So keep your turntable and film projector. What are you doing on a computer? Typewriters are better.
