  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

HYDROGEN hands on video from MKBHD

Should have said 5.7" display.

HELL YEAH MKBHD! Great move on getting it in his hands, love that guy

WOW!

will it be r3d or another codec?

If this features a Helium cut with R3D recording that's enough to beat most things. I also think that it's the most plausable sensor type and format. Can someone with better math skills tell what sensor size the Helium would be if you cut a 4K slice from it?

Just watched the video, now sitting here grinning from ear tl ear.
Glad I got my pre-order in.

this will probably be a unique sensor design, but i'd say it would favor small format lenses

Is it possible we se how you would mount it on a camera any day soon? Do we need an module to connect it to the camera? or is there a some kind of port some where that can connect to the camera with some special cable?

I like the idea of the dedicated Record button on the side.
No sarcasm, we need to be able to record the police instantly, without too many button presses and swipes.

I don't think his reaction to the screen really sold it.
When I first heard "hologram," I thought of something futuristic that pops out, like the phones in the movie, Passengers:

This is what I'm looking forward to.
It was when I saw that lens thing it all clicked for me. The design takes a bit of getting used to, but can't wait to get my hands on one.
Great to see that it's an interchangeable lens mount on there. Wondering about the triple thing

It might be too much to expect... but if the lens mount allows us to use the regular lenses Nikon F/Canon EF... that would be great.
We dont have to invest on lenses specific to Hydrogen again!

Thanks to Red and Mkbhd for showing us the prototype.

it sounds like the 'hologram' is kind of like a multi-directional 3d effect, instead of stereo-view it looks 3d from all angles. pretty cool really, although i'm not sure what kind of format to deliver in. you could shoot four cameras, or manually convert it by filling/painting the background, which can be tedious. there are also automatic and semi-automatic conversions, none of which i know to be available commercially, but i might be wrong. the main problem with stereo 3d is if you're not looking at it just the right way, the effect doesn't work, and this seems to resolve that shortcoming. but i don't think we're going to see princess leia popping out of it anytime soon.

At first i thought red was making a license play here lending their name and a little tech to a phone but now im wondering is this really legit? like when will we know if it is carrier unlocked? 4G? tell me more phone stuff i know the camera is top tier no worries there

Glad I ordered titianium, will be more rugged for attaching lenses/modules. I think I get it, it will look like you are looking through a window at an image inside that is 3-D, like looking through the glass doors to a building and seeing the lobby inside. The 3-D world is deep to the surface of the phone, not projected above it. As you move the phone around, the image changes giving different vantage points of the same structures. Clever!
