Has anyone tried using the HVX200 with a 35mm adaptor (redrock m2 with PL mount) as a B camera for select shots when shooting with their Red? (it sure would be nice to use two Reds instead, I know, but you gotta make do with what you got).

I shoot and make living off my HVX200 at the moment (until RED) and from what I have seen of the RED footage I dont imagine it would be possible to intercut with an HVX. You can search the forums and find comparisons where some people pulled the HVX out and did a side by side you simply cant compare the RED image, way too much information for the HVX.

Perhaps it would work if you had no other choice and were going to deliver in 720 or 1080 only...but I kind of doubt it.

Wouldn't a cheap HV20 with a 35mm adapter recording out to harddrive via HDMI be better than an HVX?

Or maybe use an HVX Hydra mod? I think the Hydra does 4:4:4 2K.

In theory if you record at true 1080p or 2K and you were finishing at 1080p or 2K, you might be able to intercut some shots.

I don't think the 720p that comes out of the HVX will work at all.

I recently cut straight hv20 footage with hvx/35 adapter...worked out ok. I'm just getting going with my red but can't see cutting it with hvx unless you where looking for some change of look within the piece.

The resolution hit and noise increase of the HVX picture would be glaringly noticeable side by side, even with a 35mm adaptor clamped to the front.

What is your final output?
I'd think at the very least you would need a bcam capable of true 1080p, even then it won't be as clean as RED footage. As others have mentioned above, there is a huge difference between quality of a 4k image downsampled down to 720p vs hvx's native 720p/or 1080i output. You'll probably have to wait until the red pocket cam comes out.

Most people don't finish at 720p. Most will finish at 2K, I would think, or perhaps 1080p, so you'd have to upres the 720p footage, which barely holds up at 720p to begin with.

It's a bad idea, IMO.

Poi, were you shooting via HDMI with the HV20?
