Hey Everyone!

We have an emergency here and need to leverage community wisdom here.
I hope there's someone in the forums that has run into this known issue before and fixed it.

Essentially, we recorded a very complicated half day of feature filming in NYC onto a 512 Mag; when we read it on the computer, the mag was blank.
Back in the camera, the mag was blank too.

So I used REDUndead and PhotoRec to recover the lost footage off the corrupted card.
PhotoRec didn't really spit out anything useful (all files maxed out at 2GB file size which is incomplete), but REDUndead was able to recover pretty much all files, with consistent 4GB sizes.
Now... the only problem is that as soon as I try to read the files, RedCineX crashes.

I tried recovering it in different ways on different drives for 20 hours before giving up and sending it to the RED HQ in Irvine. Unfortunately, a phone call today morning gave us the news that they were unable to recover the files too, but would reach out to other tech wizards to see what can be done at the RED Tech HQ. It'd be extremely complicated and costly to for us to re-shoot this footage.

So, the specific issue here seems to be - and the RED Tech confirmed this - that we dual-recorded in R3D and ProRes, which throws REDUndead's usual algorithm off.
It seems to be a known problem at the tech center, so I hope that someone was able to resolve it in the past; it's a big security gap for us in terms of the shooting format and we really need to fix it.

Would sincerely appreciate any pointers or ideas.

I've run into a similare problem where we recorded dual (R3d and Prores) and had a corrupted library index. I wanted to use Redundead but the insurance company wanted to use their recovery agency in Germany. The company used their algorithm and retreaved both R3D and Prores.

Here the company name

Awesome, thank you so much for the quick replies, Robert and Patrick! I'll check both services out!
Did they ever tell you what ended up being the crux of the problem and/or how they fixed it? Are there ways to prevent this in the future?

As a general rule I playback a file every hour to two depending on the importance and value of the shots. While this is not a guarantee of file integrity its a reasonable start. When your under the pump it can be hard to remember to check but its literally a 30 second investment. Its something the First AC can do as well. Its that odd phenomenon that if you check it never goes wrong.
