  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Huge Gibby Red collection at Artbeats

Thanks for the tip Tom! I knew my new Artbeats RED collections were getting close to going online, but didn't know they were starting to go up already.

Those clips and pages are just the tip of the iceberg - there's a lot more different subjects and genres of footage on the way. Between my normal production work I'm always out shooting stock footage. In the over two years that I've had my RED cameras I've shot a mountain of terrabytes of RED stock - which nobody but me has ever seen before. I'm happy to have Artbeats roll out some of it. Their staff is very professional - a joy to work with.

Sometime soon I believe Artbeats will roll out some of my other subjects and genres - surfing, kiteboarding, mountain biking, Native American culture, vineyards, Rocky Mountains, more seascapes, seals, sea birds, slow motion nature, slow motion sports, multi-cultural dancing, classic cars, Hawaii, and just a ton of other genres and subjects.

For those who aren't familiar with the Artbeats site, to view clips in real low resolution, just roll over the clips. To see them in a larger file, just double click on the clip thumbnail and the larger version will load and play.

Sometime soon I'll be building my new stevegibby.tv web site, to replace my current cut4.tv site. The new site will house multiple demo reels in a range of sizes (Flash, 1080p, 720p, and 480p) featuring various subject categories, trailers from some of the TV programs I've done, etc.

BTW - To those of you who don't know, some of Tom's great footage some is also represented by Artbeats. Check out his footage there, or on his Timescapes web site - its superb.

Now that's a list of things I like.

You've been having too much fun Steve:)

Congratulations Gibby, just scrolled through the previews. Love the silhouette shots :)

Thanks Eren...its good to finally start rolling some of this footage out!

I really like shooting backlit subjects - silhouettes, etc.

Hopefully I can have too much fun the whole rest of my life :)

I'm just really lucky to somehow make a living at documenting the things that are part of my lifestyle. I go everywhere with a camera. Me and my wife never take "vacations" - we just take "business trips"

Congrats Gibby.

It's amazing collection!

Than you Sanjin! Its a big, interesting world - and what better way to shoot it than with RED (or Epic or Scarlet)?

To me, RED has really helped put the fun back into this profession...

Hi Gibby,

I just have got REDROCKET and enjoying watching old test footage stock.

Actually I should now stop "rentals" right away and start very soon to do my own projects.

Your R1 work is always a huge inspiration for me and it's one of the best examples for using RED1 as a mobile, nature oriented shooting and of course great handheld camera.

Also I just ordered ET Mantis that together with my EasyRig 3 Cine is going to be a gorgeous RED1 handheld rig.

Thank you for those very kind words Sanjin...

You're on the right track - Mantis and Easy Rig - an excellent combination.

RED Rocket rocks for sure...

Keep shooting and have fun!

Steve,

Congrats! That stuff looks great. I love the coastal shots... especially the sunsets. Your shots of the rock formations on page 2 are amazing as well. Is that Colorado?

I've been shooting around the coast here and there (Avila, Morro Bay, etc)...still trying to get my footage dialed in though. I learn something new everyday with this cam. Anytime you want to go out and shoot just let me know!

Omar

Howzit Omar...good to hear from another local Central Coast REDhead!

Thanks for the kind words on the footage...as you know there's nothing I like more than getting out with one of my REDs and shooting some new footage.

There's tons for you to shoot here on the Central Coast. Its about as diverse a place as you could ask for - rolling vineyards, endless beaches, oak covered mountains, green valleys, tons of wildlife, people doing activities, festivals of many kinds, lakes, and on and on. Like any artistic craft, cinematography takes passion and never-ending practice. No matter how long we've shot cameras, we should still work at our craft regularly. The more we learn, the more we should realize we don't know. That's the beauty of it - endless challenges and opportunities for growth!

The rock red and orange rock formations in that collection are in southern Utah - Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, etc. When I have the time I love going up there and shooting with RED.

I'm hardly ever here on the Central Coast - but sometime soon when I am I'll ring you up and we can get out and do some shooting.

Cheers!

I know what you mean about working vacations Steve. :)

I'm posting this right now from a camping chair in the foothills of the eastern sierras on my iPhone under the milky way, setting up for a panning timelapse. Some crazy, hilarious oldtimers camped near me invited me over for a campfire and beer. It's a tough job! Hehe.

You have it fully dialed in Tom :)

No "vacations"...just "business" trips - which then leads to pleasant mailbox surprises (checks)

The most valuable physical asset of any production entity, large or small, is a footage library to which they own the copyright - as long as it is in future-proof resolutions and evergreen subject matter. RED One is a great stock footage acquisition tool - but IMO Epic and Scarlet will be even better for shooting stock :)

Artbeats is doing paypal deposits now, too, but I know what you mean about the checks.

Regarding the working vacations, I recently went camping with my Dad and brother for a week in the high sierras. The whole time I was like, "Oh... nice river... let me go grab my camera!" My Dad was like, "Can't you just take a vacation?" :)

Speaking of which. If you take your camera over to Hawaii for a week, can you write the whole thing off, in terms of taxes?

How do you store these massive amounts of data, Steve? 10TB? 20TB? These numbers are scary to me. When Epic comes, the data is going to be freekin massive.

Steve,

Happy to see you alive and kicking.

You do it right. I don't know the word vacations in years. Not sure if it is the best meaning for holidays, though. For fun, perhaps.

E. :-)

Tom:
As you know, since we love our work, taking a camera with us everywhere is just a very natural thing to do. The time we don't take it is when we'll see a great image somewhere and wish we had the camera with us.

Yes, if you can demonstrate that stock footage is an integral part of your business plan, then taking a camera system with you anywhere you go, including Hawaii, qualifies your trip as a business trip :)

I back up to redundant hard drives in the field, then also to LTO 4 tape at my studio. 3k is about half the data of 4k, so if know the subject matter will most likely have an HDTV finish, and/or I need higher frame rates than 30fps, then I shoot 3k - so the storage is less. Beyond that, I always shoot 4k HD. With Epic X I'll shoot 4k HD unless I know that the subject matter and probable end use of it warrants 5k. If I need real high frame rates for slo-mos I'll shoot 3k with Epic.

Emanuel:
Good to hear from you! To me its just great fun to document trips with a camera. Beyond the obvious benefit of using the footage as stock, it helps me keep my camera skills sharp, and to continue to explore the nuances of RED One.

Ketch:
Thank you...glad you like the images! Some of them were shot just a few hours from Vegas, so sometime when we're there in Vegas, lets bust out for a shooting trip. When I lived in Vegas I always shot a lot in Red Rock Canyon (that was before I had RED cameras, but the word "Red" always set well with me!). I also used to shoot a lot at Lake Mead, Mount Charleston, Valley of Fire, Hoover Dam, Lake Powell, Southern Utah, the Navajo Reservation, Grand Canyon, etc. We need to get you out of the studio for some filming of the natural world around there!

Tom and Steve, it's been great having your footage on the Artbeats site! :) Here's some tips on how to find your footage on our site:

To find Tom's footage: Type: "TWL-FH" in the search box.
Tom, in the next several weeks we will enable the option to type your full name in the search box to find your footage.

To find Steve's footage:
1. Type any keyword in the search box. (like "Clouds" for example) and hit search. You will see this page:
http://www.artbeats.com/footage/search?keywords=Clouds
2. Click Steve Gibby's name in the left side column under "refine search"
Then you will see just Steve's clips that match the keyword.

A third way to find Steve's footage:
1. go to the "Advanced Search" page. Uncheck all the producers but Steve.
http://www.artbeats.com/advanced_searches/new
2. click the "search" button (empty keyword box).
The search results will yield ALL of Steve's footage

Yet another way to find Steve's Footage:
Type "Steve Gibby" in the Search Box.

Hope that was enlightening and entertaining... ;)
Phil
