When working with a multi monitor setup only one of the monitors can be calibrated, creating the ICC profile used by the graphic board for driving all the monitors.
This means that colors are reliable only on the profiled monitor.
That's not a problem since usually the second monitor is used for non color critical task.
I've alwais preferred working with a single 30" display instead of a duble 24" setup, using an SDI board (AJA or BM) to feed the reference monitor.
I've never liked the "eyeballing" procedure of calibrating the reference monitors but with practice... and not beeing aware of other solutions, I've accepted it.
Now with the release of the HP Dreamcolor and the new Graphic cards with 10bit Display Ports is tempting me for a dual monitor setup.
I'd use the 30" monitor as main working area and the HP Dreamcolor as a reference monitor connected to the DiplayPort of the graphic board.
This would cause some problems because in this setup the second monitor is used for a color critical task.
I don't know if ther's a solution for this but if someone has suggestions....
