• Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

HP 820 Tower - RED EDITION

When will AVID certify these machines?

When will AVID certify these machines?

...And these are still not certified by AVID for Media Composer 6.0. What gives, AVID?

I would love to have a dreamcolor display on my clevo notebook. But could you have 3 512 SSD, 32G RAM and GTX680M in a HP notebook ?

Finally saw one in the flesh at REDucation UK and in our booth at IBC - they are available through Tekserve and Promax, PM me if you would like an intro to them.

No Nvidia graphics or Esata on the MBPro.

The Retina has Nvidia and of late Ive been testing the Sonnet Echo Express Pro using Thunderbolt.
eSATA is now the new slow :)

How is that working out for you? I want to use the Sonnet Echo Express as well, but Nvidia advises against it as in this paper they wrote:
http://www.nvidia.com/docs/IO/121761/adobe-hardware-performance-white-paper-2012-06-27.pdf

Specifically this line "If you are installing your own graphics card, make sure you put it in a slot marked “16x” or “16 lane”—not a smaller number like 8x or 4x, which transfer data at only one half or one quarter
the speed. Note that the initial implementations of the Thunderbolt interconnection standard only
operates at 4x speed (with 8x on the way), so GPUs placed in external Thunderbolt-connected"

No support for GPU with Thunderbolt using expansion chassis out yet :(

So its only for RED ROCKET and other PCI cards.

Thanks Eric! After some more digging I did read that using Windows can help—although a bit risky and not supported!

GPU cards over Thunderbolt under Windows are currently neither supported by Sonnet, nor the GPU card vendors, nor Microsoft.

Several GPU cards do seem to work with Windows if you boot the maching with the Thunderbolt chassis attached at boot time. We should also note that Sonnet Echo chassis don't currently provide auxillary PCIe power which several high-power GPU cards require. Furthermore, the power required by the card must to be under the rated power of the chassis less 10W for Thunderbolt, less the power drawn by a subsequent bus-powered Thunderbolt device, if any. Here's an informative link: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/pci-express-graphics-thunderbolt,3263.html Bonne chance.

Elan we have a Magma as well and Im not sure but that too might not support GPU.

I really don't see why people make such a big deal out of the operating system. I agree that Windows OS is garbage and for day-to-day life there is no way I would use a PC. But if all we are talking about here is using your RED HP Tower (for example) to use CS6 and REDCINE-X then what is your issue? If it's a better faster machine then it makes sense... Just use your MacBook Pro with your flashy retina display when you feel the need to complain on Reduser :)

I agree its not garbage I use it day to day for 3D and admin stuff.

However, Windows 7 still has this annoying refresh issue when opening a folder with content above and beyond 1000 items.
This gets to be a problem during long sequential Maya renders and such.

Ive done all I can from Indexing to MS voodoo and it does it on all Windows 7 boxes.

Not exactly a breeze to work with.

Had to go back to using Command line just to move files around.
