  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How's this for a bug!

OK, maybe I'm the only one around here really pushing this software to it's limits...

The way I have my files set up Reel1.prproj points to resources in Reel1.aep, Reel2.prproj points to resources in Reel2.aep, etc.

Somehow, Reel1.prproj has developed an unhealthy obsession with Reel3.aep. If I fire up Reel1.prproj while Reel1.aep is running, all of the links work fine (she won't cheat on him if he's home). If I fire up Reel1.prproj when AE is not running, none of the links will work. If I try to restore links to Reel1.aep, it shows me contents from Reel3.aep, insisting its Reel1! What am I stupid? I see that you're trying to cheat on him!

This is the best part: If I fire up Reel1.aep while Reel1.prproj is running (unlinked) what do you think happens? WRONG! AE will load Reel1.aep (which takes time and you can see it load) and then quick as a flash it turns into REEL3.AEP! Right before your EYES! What The Flarn?!? It's like Super-gigalo leaping out of the phone booth to abscond with your... er... file. (Not a perfect metaphor I admit.)

Anyway, there is obviously a corrupted bit o' link information in one or more of these files. Any suggestions on how to get to it? These are big files with a lot of hours into them, and my deadline looms...

How about renaming Reel3.aep and moving it to a different location? That way it can't change and cheat on somehow who doesn't exist (sorry, trying to speak your language here)

Can't, Reel3.prproj depends on it. That's not really the problem, It's not that it's internal pointer is pointing AT Reel3.aep, it's that its NOT pointing at Reel1.aep.

I love this problem! Hehe... In case I haven't mentioned it before I spent the last 5 years working on dynamiclink. This is a discussion we have every few months. After Effects has a feature called save and increment. i.e. I have project.aep and I want to back that up and continue working. So Save and Increment and we get project1.aep. The consensus which I was never quite sure was correct was to have dynamiclink auto connect to the latest version. So what you are seeing is as designed. Move your new project out of the folder or change the name other than a number.

Cheers

Dave

A-HA! At least its not some internal bugaboo. Changing everything from Reel<number> to Reel<letter> seems to have ended the cheating.
