  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I'm dying over here without audio in Redcine. Are we close? A few weeks? A month? More? I don't need build 17. I NEED audio in Redcine.

There is an internal Windows-only build of REDCINE w/audio support. I believe it is being tested and pounded on before it is released.

SCRATCH also has a build out to its beta customers right now with full embedded R3D audio support.

RedCine is stubidly crippled in just so many ways.
Audio isn't really the only problem.

Ah... Let's not scratch old wounds.

If there was the intention to fix Redcine it would have been fixed already. Only a few minor additions would make such a huge difference...

I guess we have to live with it and find ways to fund a Scratch purchase. :greedy:

Sooo, what's better than Redcine, besides Scratch?

a new redcine would be brilliant but I think Miltos is correct, not gonna happen.

What do you mean a new Redcine isn't coming? Red has said that one with sound is in the works. They should at least bring it out of the goddamn Beta stage. It would be bullshit on the highest level if they don't. They don't need to keep making five other programs that you need to use for different reasons. All they need to do is make Redcine work.

What the hell do you need audio support in Crimson for? It already works exactly like it should, takes your video in and out and back to the timeline Where your audio is... NO big deal, every workflow requires this anyway. Either Printing to Tape or Re-adding VFX or filters, or sending to Color, or just about anything.

I really don't care if RedCine has audio, I would never need it. Offline / Online doesn't need it at all. The only time you need it is if you wanted to export out your shots first from Red Cine, then to start Editing... Or to Finish with RedCine, which I don't recommend as long as RedCine doesn't have secondaries.

Don't worry, these programs will be beta for a long time to come. Don't expect it to change.

I don't mean to seem demeaning, I'm just saying it simply doesn't need it. I really can't think of a way for me to utilize it.

We need audio

We need audio

I think that makes no sense whatsoever, that's like saying we don't need audio support in FCP that lets you play through the speakers because everyone is and should be only hearing audio when they have a video monitor and external near field audio monitors set up.

Many times it will make sense just to export a few clips with some color correction and have audio with them. Why would such an easy fix remain a question mark. hey already have it in the other programs.

First off,

Red released the SDk so other companies could take the load off of them, Hopefully there will be other alternatives to Redcine in the future. Red Digital Cinema is not a software company, they sell cameras. Not software. The programs will probably be Beta forever, they have no intention of becoming the tech support for a workflow that other companies can easily profit off of and make better solutions. I think they shouldn't bother with it. And they probably won't...

Second,

And how hard is it to export a .wav from the QT file and combine it to the file from Redcine? That seriously takes about 5 minutes. And if you need to only do a 'few shots' whats the difference. I mean c'mon you are really asking for a useless feature, that Professionals will not use. Thats like asking for Audio Support in Apple's Color, never gonna happen... On most High Budget gigs, Audio is only recorded to the camera as a scratch track anyway, so you have to sync anyway!

My workflow consists of opening every shot in RedAlert, making my corrections and then load all of them into Red Rushes and have it export Audio with my RSX settings... Very simple, a workaround that works better. Even if Redcine had audio I still wouldn't use it.

Basically means I avoid Redcine until the Online and Conform, not only is it faster, its more professional, and has audio.

Pretty difficult if you are running Windows. Remember, the QT Ref files are OSX-only.

I'll be sure to tell the crew for the Warner Bros. show I was talking to a few days ago that they are not professionals. ;)

Seriously though, it's clear that this feature is not valid for your workflow. Ok, and that's cool. It is *very* valid for a lot of other workflows and a lot of other people.

A lot of people want to use REDCINE as a way to finalize circle takes for editorial. A lot of people want to use REDCINE on set during breaks to check out what was just shot. And not everyone uses FCP and not everyone uses a Mac. For those people, audio in REDCINE is invaluable.

Thats true, I did forget about the windows users. I'm definitely wrong in that dept. Now that I thought about it, Windows really needs the help.

Mac does not need it,

I'm worried that red hasn't posted any kind of response to this question. It makes me think that they agree more with Lewis. We should have some complicated set of different programs and workflow to present to potential clients. They really loooove that.

So, I guess that's it. Red isn't going to make a new redcine. i guess I'm the naive one. Once again the post side gets the shaft and I along with many other Red owners get to make up excuses for the state of its backend workflow. I guess I just won't be able to rent the camera out for as many productions until Apple and Adobe actually have native r3d support. Thanks.
