It's great to see big changes in the camera Build 16 ... but it's also a bit scary from a post stand point. I hope the RED powers-that-be will keep the post production side informed of what's going on. Reading Jim's post about new .R3D formats, new Quicktime components, new RED software brings a lot of questions to my mind ....
Will this new stuff be backwards compatible with the old?
Will the old software still be available for download?
Is the new .R3D file format still called .R3D? How do you tell new and old apart?
I've got 2 current RED edits in house, 3 more coming in the next week or so ... if a camera owner updates to build 16 and brings that footage in, how does it effect everything else?
Can different versions of RedCine live on the same machine?
And some other's I'll think of later.
Please oh please RED powers-that-be, keep the post production world informed of this big change and how we can deal with it with minimal headaches.
