  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How we came HATE Adobe in just under a month...

I had to stop with the Adobe madness before it put me in an early grave. Worst customer support in the business.

Well to sidetrack from the whole Adobe bitchfest, I loaded up Speedgrade CC and it autoenabled my Tangent Element control surface right off the bat.

Pretty cool.

Hah! Speedgrade was crap in CS6 hopefully they'v made it more functional in CC7. But for me the horse has already bolted Davinci is where its at for me now. No way will I pay money for a system that was as stunted & unworkable as Speedgrade was in CS6 again.

That's why I'm wary of the cloud, its all about "lock in" not improved functionality for the user.

Matt nice to know its working for you. Maybe post like yours will change my mind but its early days so I'll sit on the fence & see how it pans out.

Well to be fair, Speedgrade was bought by adobe less than 6 months before CS6 came out, so there wasn't much time to Adobe-ize it.

It looks like it has definitely improved since then and I look forward to trying it out.

I have and love resolve too. It's always good to have more than one tool in the chest.

I'm deep in the middle of a big CGI project at the moment, so no installs of any software on any machine (or updates etc), but I think I'm going to start looking at Lightworks for editing (once I've delivered the job) and see what goes from there.

I don't think anything will make Adobe sway from their course.

I hear that sort of problems that Sandro encounters mostly from Mac users - maybe the implementation isn't as good as on PC.
I do all sorts of projects (long/short/high/low rez) in Premiere since donkeys years and never run into a disaster like that - not even close. So I doubt it's the software per se.
I build my own NLE only dedicated machines and handmassage the system (i.e. throwing out all the crap, I don't need or at least prevent from running unnecessary services), before I even install a single program. Works and performs just fine for me.
Since Win7 and CS6 I haven't seen a single freeze, bluscreen or hickup.

So yeah, from my experience Adobe products run more stable on PC - I think the Mac implementation is still done without much love.
An other general problem is (I think) that folks tend to have a do-it-all machine and they run all sorts of stuff on their workstation - even permanently hook them up to the internet and do surfing, mail andwhatnot on them. Asking for trouble IMHO.

The problem IS with the subscription model and it does appear to be its poor implementation on Mac. The Application Manager simply does not work on my bog standard Mac Pro ... I have also seen this reported on other forums as well. Result - I cant download or even OPEN adobe products that I have paid for ..

Yeah Adobe needs to step up their phone support. With a little guidance they have a very nice looking NLE.

Hi,

its always hard if you get in trouble with your workhorse software...

it was an interesting read and reflected some of my own findings.

1. until CS5 stability was a common problem on PC - CS5 to 6 was relative stable - with CC6 lot's of bugs appeard and this continues with CC7 - lots of things changed an we currently see bugfix after bugfix to get it stable again... if you take a look at all the CC7 functions marked as "coming soon" and all the CC installer problems you will get a idea of how much work is left...

on the other hand the CC7 has some really powerful modern applications with an highly integrated workflow...

2. From MAC users I hear that it was getting better with CS6 but problems reappeared with the CC versions.

3. If you don't want to deal with all this problems and money isn't the problem - a system integrator can sell you a preinstalled system and service - so you don't have to think about all the hiccups

4. If you compare CC7 with much more expensive systems it's not a surprise that they offer better support - for sure Adobes default tel support only can suggest things the experienced user already knows...

... if I remember how buggy and unstable Smoke on Mac was in the beginning... I don't wonder about the actual CC7 problems...

so the best we can do is to clearly point to the most annoying bugs so that Adobe has to fix them quickly...

The level of complexity and the number of variables are so high with any modern NLE and camera formats / storage / cards / computer options that it is a wonder that anything works. I have found Adobe to be pretty responsive and the forums on their sites too; but yes I have pulled the remaining bits of my hair out too at times and then tried to go back to a more reasoned 'Zen computing' attitude where I try to work with the system rather than fight it. This usually works for a while and then I loose vital media or loads of time trying arcane work arounds. Then I scream and carry on again. It's a cycle!

I've stated in a few threads that I had no interest in joining the CCloud. I'm considering back tracking from that statement. As someone who has purchased and registered Adobe software in the past, there seems to be an option to pay for the service a year at a time. I may give them the benefit of the doubt for a one year trial since I'm already acquainted with PP and AE to a lesser degree.

With CS6 I considered a saved project as my 5k master of footage that I may have outputted to MPEG2 Blu Ray or even DVD. That is, I could go back and send it out as something that could be shown in 4k. I think I will continue in that vein with 6k and if Adobe suddenly becomes unreasonable in their demands for being in the cloud, I will buy in just long enough to convert to something that is transferable to another app and quit Adobe with prejudice.

I haven't made this decision yet but it is something I'm considering.
