  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How was this done?

I would love to see a breakdown. I'm in preproduction for a spot right now which does the same effect.

My plan was the 'heroes' method. My biggest concern is with vegetation. I'm not sure what to do to ensure breeze free grass.

:Yawn::Yawn::Yawn:

Motion control, Super glue, A lot of hairspray, wires, green screen support sticks etc, FX art direction, Art direction, actors with stone cold faces  and some CG.

Since it's moco the shots are shot in layers - u also have the 1st count down for the cast so they're relaxed until they appear at camera (half of them are clown masks anyway). When clothes are starched to the brink of standing up themselves they stop the effect of the body looking like it's moving. If someone blinks that can be corrected in post. As for a slight move I guess it's possible as well but I doubt they down any. There's also always the possibility of a retake.

Some props are hanging in wires etc that is painted away.

Smoke, flares, nozzle flames etc are all CG.... Do I need to go on?

Just look at the FX part of it - it's self explanatory.

yes it was on a track. It is many shots bridged together and many passes of each. People were hung on wires which were rotoscoped out, items were on posts, many elements were cg, green screen was employed. I doubt there were any bullet time arrays but there might have been. All moco. Fredrik's explanation sounds right on the money to me.

One of the plans I also have for my project is to shoot 72fps.

Overcrank enough and you can smudge over really small movements as just part of the perspective change.

I wonder if they didn't set their moco rig to at least double speed when used.

btw- did you guys notice the hints that pop-up on the timeline...take a look again.

Yeah, geez - watch the commentaries built right into this thing and you see that weirdcrew knows exactly what he's talking about.

Also Christian posted this which clearly explains it.:

It looks like they used those techniques and then spliced a few shots together. I doubt it was one shot.... but I suppose with a technocrane and CG ceilings that would be possible.

I saw another similar sequence last week on Heroes now that Hiro has his powers back. It could also be that someone among us (a DP perhaps) has an ability! ;)

Haha...they're hilarious...that's not really the DP, Director & VFX Supervisor is it??!! I like the guy who played the DP (where on earth did they find him?!) "bring me some bounce, turn up the 5K, OK I'm ready"...damn he's quick!! I particularly like the grading summary "crush the blacks, a little green and we're good to go".......is that it?!! That's all?!!!

IMHO, not a single camera move. There are bridge elements to transition from one shot to another, going through a doorway and using the doorframe as a cutting piece between two shots. And the move through the window which returns us to the start point uses the window sill as the cutting piece bridging two shots.

Incredible execution all the way around.

Freeze-frame orgy porn coming to a web browser near you. C'mon, it's bound to happen.
