Hi there. Hoping someone can help with some workflow questions. We want to shoot on RED at 30FPS and post at 1080i. Actually we would love to post at 1080P30 but there is no preset for that in Avid or FCP.
Why shoot 30 FPS? Good question. This project is for FOX Sports and everything is 720P 59.94. We have no need for 24 fps (only 29.97 and 59.94) and we like posting all of our creative in the higher resolution of 1080i. Going from 24P to any flavor of 59.94 introduces quality issues we have not been happy with which is why we now shoot everything at 30FPS. We do a lot of layering and compositing in our spots and we do go back to the 4K but find that the 1080i 59.94 is the best setting for us to work on in our Avid Symphony Nitris systems and later our Flame bays.
Soooo...the question involves transcoding. We want to use Metafuze or RedCineX to transcode our 30FPS RED Footage to DNXHD 220X at 1080i but the only 1080 formats we se in metafuze or RedcineX are all 24 fps. We really don't want to use 720p in our workflow. Our Canon 5D footage is also 1080P30 and we actually like this workflow.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how we go about getting our footage transcoded to 1080i from our 30fps Source. It seems that all of the presets are locked in and there isn't one for 1080i 59.94.
