  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How to test the actual visible differences in compression ratios

Les, With all due respect we did a shot of a shattering basketball backboard at 96fps. At the time the compression was 12:1. Locked off camera. No artifacts visible until the special Fx set off the shatter. At that moment the unshattered backboard broke apart into severe jaggies.
It was easy enough to fix in post since we had plenty of locked off frames of the backboard.

Maybe this has been fixed in new builds but what it showed us was that the compression algorithm had to devote 100% of its power to the shattering glass so the static part of the frame lost out big time

And I will repeat what Jim said to John Schwartzman and me when we were prepping Spiderman. We wanted to use 3:1 nd Jim said we were just wasting SSD and hard drive space. We shot almost 100% 5:1 and were totally happy
