  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How to replace QT proxies with RED RAW files?

Working with Color is a great way to get Quicktime movies in R3D form into a color corrector, but I don't think it negates the uses of Scratch. Scratch is etc etc

Michael, What exactly is Native?

Pablo looks sharpest. Adobe aint bad.

Color aint bad considering it's from 2k not 4k.

Cheers for the images...

Use an EDL instead of SEND TO COLOR

Use an EDL instead of SEND TO COLOR

This is a well known issue. Try saving as an EDL and loading that in Color. It should pick up the R3Ds.

You will probably need to resize the Color workspace as it will want to match the proxy size initially.

It works, it works well, it works fast, it doesn't require any 3rd party tools or extra steps.

I tried to send quicktime proxy edited timeline to Color.
Yes, it really links to R3D media but some of clips link to totally wrong R3D files.
In FCP everything's fine but in Color some clips, although named the same as in FCP, are linked to wrong 3RD's. Thumbnails of clips in Color are correct but in reality some of the clips contain wrong video. I don't get this... I thought that maybe the names of R3D files are similar (so that might be the reason for wrong linking) but everything's fine with that - all R3D clips (and QT proxies) have totally different filenames.

What's the problem?

Color ain't bad because we all have free access to it!

I'm all for using the best tools and paying for quality. I recently spent $10k having a 30 second TVC graded and output to 35mm in a Scratch suite.

But much of what I do just can't afford outside grading.

Being able to get it pretty darn close myself, even if there is a quality hit, is a Godsend, just like the camera was!

Color aint bad considering it's from 2k not 4k.
