Hey everyone,

I have a deal that I'm trying to make currently and I'm looking for advice on how to pay for the equipment. The equipment is not in my state and I can't make the trip to get it. Does anyone have any solid advice on how to purchase gear that protects both the seller and the buyer?

Thank you in advance.
Dan.

This is what escrow is for. I used Safe Funds last time, but there are plenty of services.

Paypal.
You are well protected, despite what some knuckleheads say to the contrary.
Link to a gold card with fraud insurance and you are double protected.

Tommaso, i do not agree with it. eBay and Paypal protect JUST Buyer. I lost many items on eBay return process (no money, no item, very common there). With wire - i will agree with you and You have to be very careful where You send the money, because it is hard to get money back.

I am in a similar scenario where I am buying a Follow Focus System for 10K. I just decided to fly out to California and pick it up in person. If you get a certified check from your bank the seller can be assured that the money is in your account and ready for transfer.

I use paypal (never as a friend) for things under 3-5K, but most of the time the little extra money you spend traveling to get gives you a good experience, typically you can learn a thing or two from the person selling it to you and you can make sure what ever you are buying is functional.

For me in Cleveland a flight to LAX and an air Bnb for 3 nights flying Southwest was $100 cheaper than paypal fees on 10K and shipping of the Pelican back to CLE.

Southwest gives you a carry on, personal and two checked bags. Always be careful and look for opportunities to expand your horizon is my motto.

Thank you so much everyone. I appreciate all the great advice!

Hey Guys,

Do you have to wait a certain amount of time after being accepted by admin to post a new thread for gear for sale here? I was approved, but I cannot post new threads here. Have a sweet Chrosziel Matte box kit to sell...

All of the above ideas work well. Another one I would like to add is if you have anyone local that you could trust to handle the transaction for you? That way you get all the benefits of in-person transaction, but you don't have to fly out there yourself.

What Jason said.

Its a common path to send the gear to a known service facility, lets say Duclose for a lens sale. Then you potentially get an evaluation (for a fee) and they often are willing to being intermediaries between a seller and a buyer. It will cost a little more with extra shipping and evaluation, but this path can help avoid serious and expensive lessons that happen every day on the internet market place. Been there.

My friend bought an Alexa Plus here using Escrow.com
You would pay to Escrow.com, the Seller would see the funds, he sends the product to you,
when you receive it you have a few days to inspect the Product and Accept or Reject it,
If you accept it, the funds are released to the seller.
