  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How to get Red footage into something DCI-compliant for 2K projection?

There is a theater with new 2K projectors in my town and I wanted to do a screen test with a few people before we go into production.

I understand that 2K-DCI compliance looks something like this:

2048x1080p @ 24fps JPEG2000 with a maximum datarate of 250Mb/s?

But the ticky part for me is the MXF playlist and how 2.6 gamma is applied during projection.

How do I get something ready so the theater can screen this test just like they would screen something from a studio?

Many thanks!

Quvis Wraptor will do the trick for you.

Wraptor is pretty cool, but prepare for some calibration if you want to grade for DCI directly out of color.

We've made an "RGB to wraptor lut" to accomodate those who don't grade directly for DCI delivery through wraptor, that has become pretty nice, but correcting drectly for the projection, gives far better results.

One can buy such a suite (+ the appropriate hardware) and offer mastering services to indie\low-budget filmmakers... :sorcerer:

That'd give the opposite efect of what you want...

We have spent so far 3 days @ a dci theatre and 2 days back in the studio (with both Barcos and Christies) to make LUTs for grading and RGB transcoding with wraptor.

It's not a "push-button" experience, but it starting to look rather good.

The last 10%... :)
