Sure, if you have access to Luster than go for it.

I think that if used properly, simply transcoding your .R3D to DPX at full debayer will look just as good on Redcine X as any other application.

I am NOT talking about color grading... RC-X is a one-light tool at best, I use it strictly as a data transfer/transcoding application.

Ah, well not really. Lustre by itself doesn't work with R3D files. You'd need to have the Gateway set up with some kind of high speed network for that to work. Even then, Gateway uses standard SDK, which means, that there is nothing special about it's quality. Also, all metadata settings have to be done through a web browser. I would say, Lustre is just about the most convoluted solution out there...
BTW, Resolve on my octo 2.26 GHz 2009 Mac transcodes R3D to DPX at Full Premium quality at about 4-5 FPS. Your mileage may vary, depending on CPU speed.

You cannot beat Scratch for making DPX files fast. AFAIK all RedRocket based decodes are limited to the image manipulation tools in the SDK, so it may be true that RedCine-X is as good as anything else for the task. It is my understanding that the real issue is disk IO. I run my Scratch system on a blazing fast JMR DigiLab that can read and write at 1,500MB/sec (32 spindles, 4 Atto SAS controllers) so perhaps that's why its so fast :001_cool:

Disclosure: I do some work with JMR and Assimilate.

Jake are you on a beta or is it shipping now? I thought it wasn't released yet...
