How do you actually calculate the resolve for a camera? Like EPIC 5K sensor that delivers a full 4K measured resolution.

It is measured by aiming the camera at an appropriate test chart. The resolution measured is the optical resolution of the lens/sensor/processing combination.

Yes, you measure it. We use linear sine zone plates and they provide an accurate resolution measurement.

You can test it yourself, take a 3rd party's word, or take the manufacturer's word on true measured resolving capability of an end to end system. You can also realize that resolving power is only a part of overall quality and a lot of other things go into making a good system.

Obviously, these RED camera systems do very well in all measurable aspects of picture. That, combined with a picture that is also pleasing to humans,... makes it a pretty damn good system.

Oh, I'm speaking of what's currently available too.

So it´s not so easy to measure the resolve without special plates to film and perhaps some program to analyze. I was hoping it would be easier. Would have been interesting to se different cameras from panasonic and sony what resolution they say and what they really resolves in. What does scarlet 3k resolve in? And thanks for all answers as usally!!/Joel
