  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How to be sure??

Hi,
We have shot a feature film on EPIC and we had a field backup of data which was done on set during shooting.

We made another copy of the same data on our DI suite SCRATCH and while grading found lot of black frames in the footage.

The DIT was called and he was dead sure that during shoot they had done the preview on CINE X and everything was ok.

Then we checked the original data which was backed up on set and found it to be OK...

Has anyone faced this kind of problem and what is the solution for this so that we can be sure that the data backup is okay.

The on set data was done on a MACBOOK and the DI suite is on Windows platform.

Thanks

Harcharan

If you used a md5 dual (or more) copy routine like r3d data manager, you are getting pretty close ro safe, as long as you make two copies from the original at once.

Bear in mind that on any medium good data can go bad either by chance or through corrpution.

MD5 to two places straight from read-only cam media has never yet let me down. Plenty of problems have arisen further along the chain, but its always provided the safety net.

If an MD5 checksum is created when the files are copied, then you have a means by which to verify down the road. The files are offloaded and checksum is created at that time, then the DIT reviews the footage and confirms the copy was good. Any subsequent copies made can be verified against that original MD5 checksum file which is always copied and transported with the clips. R3D Data Manager is a good tool to use if you're unsure where to start.

Thanks

Hi,
Thanks guys.

Use Carbon Copy Cloner instead of the Finder in OSX. Much more reliable, and has a great folder-to-folder sync option.
