Hi,

I know I have read some thread in the past about this issue, but was unabble to find it, can someone tell me what is the securest way to sell RED equipment online?

I'm selling a R1 and acessories to India, and as normal is this cases, buyer have to buy the gear without seeing it and I also want to be secure, cause have heard many cases of paypal scams...

Thanks

Humberto,
Just don't use the paypal I think:) Or use it only with reputable buyers.
Send full information to the buyer and then get paid by bank transfer.
Any paypal transfer could be canceled and returned back.

Thanks Kate, Also agree with you, but in that case me as a seller will be secure, but not the buyer, supposing that I would make a scam to him...

Is it possible to send the camera to RED evaluation and ownership transfer and after red confirms that everything is OK, the seller make a payment to me, but this would only be possible if RED could wait for my green light before ship the items to the buyer...

Anuone knows if this is possible?

There's a lot of escrow services, etc.
You can also send camera to RED for testing, than make the ownership transfer to the buyer and he'll even get 90 days warranty... After the camera will arrive to RED - you can ask them to inform the Buyer and he'll pay.
But you can loose some $$ on service. And the buyer can refuse to pay - in this way you'll loose funds on shipping too.

Anyway - it's better to contact RED directly.

Thanks Kate,

Maybe is better to ask for a small amount of payment, iqual to the value that RED may charge me, if a payment is refused then I can pay and they return it to me, if everything is ok, then RED can send it to buyer...

I was thinking that RED acepts the camera to evaluation/change ownership, but what will I do to the other acessories?

Does anyone have selled RED cameras to other country's? can anyone share experiences?

I recently bought a used Scarlet on RU. Red didn't wanna take possession for an eval until I paid the original owner, period. They do not want to act as a middle man in situations like these. I whined and moaned, and was terrified of losing gear/money. Then the would be seller cut me a deal and sent me most of the accessories up front as a token of good faith. I then decided to just go for it, Red assured me he's the registered owner, and everything worked out great. That being said there was a lot of potential risk on my side and the sellers, and I think using a safe middle man service is a better idea. That or find a local buyer

Thanks, I now have to contact the buyer to see if a escrow service is a good option to him, and of course, will give him the mail from red so he can be sure that I'm the owner of the gear I'm selling, and to make the ownership transfer and evaluation...

I don't know what eBay charges on large ticket items, but they've got a lot of buyer and seller protections in place that they guarantee.

Don't know about Ebay, but PayPal usually sides with the Buyer, even when the evidence seemingly goes the other way, if you believe the many complaint stories on Google.

eBay […] got a lot of buyer and seller protections in place that they guarantee.
They have a lot of buyer protection, but virtually none for sellers. I would never use eBay for high value items, the chances of getting scammed are just to high.

There are plenty of cases of sellers getting ripped off both here and the Intertube in general.

Also, not all escrow services are serious. Escrow.com though is one of the good guys from what I hear.

Hey Humberto,
are you leaving the Red family already?
Best
B.

Hi Brice,

Unfortunately, I have to leave RED family for a wile, red cameras are amazing, R1 is amazing, but for now I can't keep it, I have a documentary project that will start soon, and I need a shoulder mount camera for film scientists working in wildlife in remote areas and also have to film a lot of wild in remote areas. I Work alone when I go to the wild and my R1 setup is heavy to carry on in my back alone for several miles in the forest, I have to buy a camera that can take with me alone in the wild.
I wish I had more money, in that case I could buy a new camera for this job, keeping the R1, but for now its impossible.
The good news is that after this job and another that is coming, probably will be able to buy an EPIC :)
So will be out for a wile, but not to much, cause I can't be out RED technology, DRAGON will be the future for me...

Humberto,
This is how the escrow works:
1) The buyer sends funds to the escrow company.
2) You send goods there.
3) They check if your shipment is real the product you've offered.
4) Then you receive your funds and the buyer receives the product.
That's all - you (or the buyer) just have to pay some fees.

Just check their website, but aware of fake services.

Kate
