Hi Guys

I found this stills image and I'm really fascinated by the look/ grading of this image and was wondering fi anyone has pointers on how to achieve this with the EPIC on a motion-stills shoot ?
How much of this can be done in camera and what would be the best way to do this on post ?
thanks for any help.

Doesn't look tricky, basically it's a day for night effect -- use a Pola filter for the skies and water, color balance for a blueish cast -- the real trick here is the lighting, once you underexpose the daylight, you need a big soft powerful key light like in this photo, probably from strobes in a still photo, but for live action, you'd need a big HMI through a big diffusion frame. If you don't need quite as much light in the shadows, perhaps a big bounce up close to the subject reflecting the sunlight.

Thanks Matt & David, I thought it was some sort of day for night process.
Id really like to replicate this on a motion stills shoot which will make the lighting trick, powerful soft continuous lighting is never practical on a run and gun shoot :/
Will shoot some tests and see how far I can take this in resolve.

If it's not a filter, there also could be a cyan-dominant hue/sat curve in post going on in there. The trick is to bring the sky down so the girl pops out in the foreground more. This would require careful time-of-day choices in production.

there is also some sort of smoothing and sparkle going on with her skin, but thats probably just basic photoshop, again, for motion its most likely harder to get a similar effect in post and might be easier achieved with makeup.
i will give this cyan treatment a try, good exercise to work on my resolve skills.

Hi Dominik,

This looks like a silver bounce to me. Be careful with the polarizer though, make sure not to darken and take away the sparkle also from the skin. Skin smoothening is post work and up to taste, for me it feels overdone but YMMV.

Cheers, Ulf
