Do I need to worry about Scarlet with Canon Al mount? Is there just a concern with larger lenses? If larger lenses are properly supported could there still be an issue. I'm think my Canon EOS cameras only have Al mount (may be wrong on this - not sure). I have never had issue with my lenses - largest is my 70-200 though. Is wear a concern, or only if lenses would be changed extremely often.

I was gonna say that you can safely treat the Al mount like you would the mount on a Canon EOS camera.

Lenses under 3 lbs or so should be fine - the 70-200 needs support.

For the most part because of the locking Red EF design, you should be even safer and more reliable than the actual Canon EF mounts ... assuming that Red keeps the same design for the Al Canon mount as they use on the Ti Canon mount.

I was similarly concerned and am using a wide assortment of Canon lenses. Does anyone have a feel if the camera mounted on rails with a rail mounted lens support would be sufficient for lenses up to 5lbs?

If your lens is properly supported on rails ... any lens you can mount to EF, including the Angeniuex 24-290 should be fine. That lens is 24 lbs, and its the heaviest thing I've ever mounted to an EOS/EF mount.

If you are uncertain about how to rig proper support, then check with your nearest lens rental facility for film. They'll give you a quick run down ... because they don't want you screwing up their expensive glass.

it looks like the AL Mount has a lever release button on the side, so I'm guessing it's not like the Titanium locking ring design. anybody know for sure?

I guess it was other way around, you mount EOS to the lens :)
